Default Clubs near Minneapolis

Hey guys I'll be heading out to Minneapolis in a few weeks for a flying job, and OF COURSE I'll be bringing something to fly! Any RCUers in that area know of a club that's friendly toward giant scale and helis? I did a search and couldn't find a whole lot. Thanks!

Ryan, There are several good clubs in the Twin Cities area. When you get to town, go to Hobby Warehouse - 7120 Chicago Avenue
Minneapolis, MN 55423

They're the best LHS in town, and they are affilliated with several of the clubs.

Any idea what PART of town you'll be in?

It's mid September, if you won't be there for a few weeks you may want to bring something with skis on it.

Hey California guy, it's not that bad. Good weather here for a couple months yet. I fly year round. There's a nice club out in Shakopee...the only one I've been to. It's right across the way from Valley Fair.

I lived in minniapolis for 6 months, it was very very nice. Have fun Ryan! The lakes are awesome as well. Do you guys float fly? Are you bringing the 2.6 extra Ryan? Hahaha!

Thanks for the info guys. Mike, I'm not sure exactly where I'll be yet, but I want to try to live near the Crystal and Anoka airports, which I believe are northwest of downtown by about ten miles.

My plan is to bring the Raptor 60 and a fun fly type plane. If I can't fit my Midwest Extra in my car, I have some spare 8411s and a 50cc gasser that I will bring with me and will pick up a 27%ish plane when I get there. Unfortunately the 2.6 will have to stay in Seattle for a while .

It may get darn cold there in the winter but so far Minnesota is having a much better September than Seattle is [&o]. Nothin but rain for the last two weeks. [:@]

Ryan,

There is a very good club not far from Anoka. They are in the town of Blaine. RCU Mod daven is a member there, shoot him a PM and he'll help you out.

And as far as Ice fishing goes, I feel that it's proof that long exposure to cold weather causes brain damage.

Mike, are you talking about this club? Looks like a good place to fly.

PS I'm actually heading out this Friday for Watertown, SD for training for a couple weeks. If anyone is in the area I'll see if I can get out and do some flying.

Ed, I'll be flying Cessna 310s for a company called Priority Air. They sound nice, with GNS 430s, APs, and wx radars. Flying mostly bank and medical stuff.

Sorry I missed this, I was away for the weekend at a race in Rockford, IL.

The Northwest RC link posted earlier is no longer an active club. I believe it was shut down to build some strip malls or something.

The fields closest to Crystal and Anoka is the Grassfield in Brooklyn Park, MN. The website is www.grassfieldrc.org but when I tried it earlier the website appeared down. We have about 130 memebers, and although our club has a strong pylon racing base many of us like to sport fly also. Saturdays tend to be loaded with fast planes, but the rest of the week is normally wide open. We have a 400x600 foot grass runway and lots of flyover space. Great for heli's or sport flying, but may be a tad small for the real big stuff.

If you want more info, let me know, I am the club V.P.

MinnFlyer was right about the best hobby shop in the State. Hobby Warehouse is the greatest, I'm sure you'll find it quickly.

while grassfields is near midway between Crystal and Anoka airports an other option is [link=http://www.mninter.net/~jsvare/acrc/ACRCHomepage.html]ACRC[/link] located about 10 miles north of Anoka airport ( 12 min without traffic) very wide open space in the middle of sod farms
