Default Any Canadians out there?

Thought I might as well find out if there any other Canadians surfing around this new news group and where you are all from. My name is Mike Harris (no, not the premier of Ontario ).
I live in Windy Fort Macleod which is 100 miles south of Calgary (you must have heard of the Calgary Stampede) and about 40 miles North of the US border at Carway. I belong to the Windy West R/C club in Lethbridge www.windywest.com (at least go and check out our amazing new air strip). I am 45 miles from our flying field and fly from the local airport as it is very underused and I have written premission from the Town Office. I have been in R/C for 6 years and currently fly a GP Giles 202 with a Saito .91. This winter I am building a 100" sailplane with RES.
So let's here from you other Canadians, or from where ever you are and get to know each other.

Cheers

Mike

Hi Doug,

we are experiencing a Chinook right now so the temperature is up above freezing but the wind is howling from the West! I'm kinda new at this Newsgroup stuff and do not know the meaning of the word "Troll" can you tell me what that means?

Default I'm a Cheeshead

Hey guys,

Actually, I'm a displaced Canadian. Moved south out of Vancouver, B.C.nto Lynden Washington - about 3K south of the Border. I like it here: kind-of, certainly don't miss paying all those taxes. Been down here about 14 years ( 10 legally? ) and married for all of those to an American from this little town of a couple thousand. Started an AMA club here this fall only a few miles away. Some good people here to fly with and i have great expectations for the club this coming year. We have 80 Acres to fly over, and a 300 foot grass strip. No snow yet, very cold rain about 1 - 4 degrees usually. ( 33 - 40 ) Still flying when the rain isn't pelting.

I like rcuniverse, not a bad place when I have the time. Great forums and run really, really well I have noticed.

I do miss good old B.C., Hockey, and of course - THE BEER! But all is well. Hope you Northerners all have skiis for your planes!

Default Pontoons

Kelvin,

Actually, your right. We almost need pontoons strapped to our feet to retrieve those missed approaches! You should come down and have a look at our growing field. Borders not too bad lately.

Default flying

Well I already fly at Bell-air, but have been thinking about the field on the badger. I work on the corner of badger and guide so it's not that far.
what's the membership cost there?

Default Lynden Field

Our membership is $40 flat per year - must be AMA or equiv
( which you are ). We have the treated lumber to build 5 new tables, and one of the guys has excavated for concrete which we hope to form and pour soon. A 40' container is coming shortly so things are looking pretty good.

It's a good choice for anyone up your way. I'll E-mail you my info and if you want to meet at the field, either myself or JohnVH could meet you there. I'm available almost any time. If you know anyone between Surrey and Abbotsford who might be interested, you can give them my info. We'd love to have them. It's a small informal non-political AMA club. ( Non-political? Let's see how long that lasts,eh?)

Default I'm Here

I'm here and glad that I am. Been flying RC on and off (much more on than off) since 1958 and hope to get my wings any day now (just kidding). Lately I've been bitten by the heli bug and now have learned why I worked so hard in business .... to be able to afford helis. Retired and belong to the best RC Club in the Universe ... Victoria Radio Control Modellers!!!!!

Still another Canadian. Member of Cambridge MAC. We have 2" Snow - 70 miles from Buffalo (7 feet+ Snow). (For younger Canadians:
about 5cm, 110km and 2.4m respectively)

Damn, it's good to live in the "Great White North"!

Kelowna BC (400 Kms. east of Vancouver) reporting in. We were flying off snow earlier in December, then back to wheels as the snow melted, now looking outside we have about 4" of fresh snow, so back to skis. Our weather hovers around 0 degrees C (32 F) so flying is quite comfortable. I have been into Electric flight in a serious way for the last number of years, and don't miss having to give the mocdels a bath after each flying session. I currently have my LT-25 on skis and having a ball.
I am one of the fortunate as being retired I can fly/build or whatever 7 days a week.
Cheers!

Default B.C. interior float-planes

Rod,

0 degrees is great - hope it's not too windy. You guys have great summer weather also, don't you?

I keep hearing about some kind of float plane fly-in up near Vernon or Salmon Arm?

Can you tell me about it? I'm dying to drive up there this year but don't know when it is. Do you know anything about it? I've heard there are hundreds of participants over several days.

Here's another Canuck checking in. Member of the Mississauga Model Flying Club(www.mmfc.net). Just had our New Years Day Fun Fly yesterday. Sunny, -5C, Bonfire, Burgers, and great flying. Big in to jets and other unique aircraft.

... and another Canadian takes a well deserved break from the raging blizzard outside as he serfs the net inside his igloo. Proud to be Canadian, eh?

Where are you Buffalo or the Carolinas? There aren't any blizzards in Canada any more. Haven't you heard, we're now in the Sub-Tropics!!!!

Later,

As a point of information. I'm a former Winterpegger who knows what cold and snow really are!
