RE: kids movie with model airplanes
Thanks for all the ideas guys. It was not "Toy Soldiers" or "remote control" .
I think it might be the one that you are talking about with the spits. I remeber they were young kids working with an adult. But they where after some bad guys and such. Anyone know where to get a copy of this movie or even what the correct title is???
Thanks agian
Bill

Sorry 'The Pipe', close but not quite.
The movie VinnyJet and Timothy Thompson are referring to is called [link=http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0316620/]Sky Pirates (circa 1977)[/link]Sky Pirates (1977) as the IMDb link verifies. Many thanks to Mike James, who emailed me on Monday afternoon (Nov 10, '08).
Childrens Film Foundation & ECM Productions co-produced this, but I checked their listings, and although many other films of theirs made it to DVD/video, this one didn't. I even remember their other co-production 'Glitterball', so I expect it was brought over to North America by the PBS channel, much like they brought Dr. Who, Dick Spanner, and Space Precinct to us.
Can anyone source it, as there is no listed video or DVD source. A torrent from a private copy would do, its for a personal collection.

RE: kids movie with model airplanes
Yes, I had very vague memories of watching this film as a kid. I Googled "radio controlled plane darts film" and got to this thread. The film I was thinking of was indeed Sky Pirates. The kids flew their plane alongside the smugglers one and shot darts at it. One ruptures the fuel tank, causing the plane to come down with the diamond cargo. I saw it in the mid to late 80's. It was part of a run of British kids films shown on the BBC on Fridays (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Friday_Film_Special) Another one in the series I vaguely remember involved a kid hiding in a disused building. A sniper comes into the building to use the window for sniping some VIP from. The kid uses a pole to pull the rifle up just as he shoots causing the bullet to explode just above the VIPs head. God knows why it explodes, but it looked cool at the time. If anyone can help with the name of this film I would much appreciate it. And some footage of Sky Pirates would be nice!
