Default RC Flying Down Under

Hi. I'm looking at a career training (Masters degree) in Australia (Melbourne/Canberra) for 12 months starting mid-year 2005. I'm planning to bring in RC plane stuff to while away free times. I have some questions (FAQS if you may) and hope that our OZ friends could help out.

1. What does it take (requirements) to fly RC in say, Melbourne or Canberra? License, permits, club memberships, etc?

2. Can I bring in my own stuff (Tx/Rx, radio avionics)?

3. Where is it legal/illegal to fly?

4. What hobbyshops can I go to in Melbourne, Canberra and Sydney?

I will be coming in under diplomatic circumstances as a guest of your government so I have to make sure what I do is according to local laws and not do anything embarrassing. Thanks mates.
