First R/C field webcam?
Our club just setup what we believe to be the first webcam located at an R/C flying site... Photos are uploaded in 20 min intervals during daylight hours and we are working on making it real-time. Check it out at: http://www.sccmas.org/field/livecam.shtml
It's really a neat thing because you can check out the weather, how crowded the field is, etc before you go flying. The view is up from 35 feet in the air on a light pole looking down at the pit area and out towards the runway. There are three taxiways that you can see which go to the runway.

Hey looks great. Yeah how do you install it. details please. Way to keep an eye on the wind sock. Wonder if a wind speed indicater on the screen would work. Anyway, great Idea.

First R/C field webcam?
Hey guys... I'll post some info in a few days. I'm out of town (at the Reno Air races). Basically, it is a computer at the field with a digital video capture card that dials out on a script every 20 min through a modem. The camera is $500 and looks like a security cam. Has auto-iris and humidity/temp control in the enclosure.
Our next project is to put live weather conditions on the site too.

Great idea! I have had this thought for a long time, but, like others, our field doesn't even have electricity at this time. My idea was to see if we could get in with the WeatherBug folks. They have a self-contained unit that collects weather info, plus a camera, and puts it on the Internet (I think you have to have their "free" software to view it). They normally install them at schools (it's supposed to be educational), but maybe they could be talked into selling one to an RC field.

Okay guys..... Here's the camera that we're using:
http://www.webcameverything.com/pccx.html
It has auto-humidity, temp control, auto-iris, etc
I didn't get the details of the setup for the computer at the field. Basically, it is a MAC with a digital video capture card that takes a snapshot and uploads it to our club's server. I'm trying to see if we can get a broadband service to the field to have DSL, but doesn't look good (24,000 ft from CO). We're out in one of the few remote areas of the silicon valley that doesn't have service. We're also going in install a better capture card that will make the images much larger.
