My big camera plane!
Guys,
After flying this plane, a big "stick" type of my own design (90"WS, 18 pounds, Fox 3.2 gasser for power) for 3 years now, I decided that strapping my camcorder to it might be interesting! Finally got the time to make a holder and try it out.
Just got back from the flying field, will check the video and post some pictures later this evening!
Just glad my camera didnt fall off! HA!

learning curve...
The camera was hard mounted, didnt seemt o be vibrating but I guess it was. Got a few good shots but I think with a layer of foam between the camera and the mount it will be a lot better.
Also, I shot through the prop, seems to "hack" up the video - sort of fuzzy. I will angle camera next time to avoid this. Fun!

I take it you used the ¼ mounting hole with a bolt? Yup, you are lucky you didn't lose the camera! It needs to be mounted in a box padded with LATEX foam. Latex works better dampening the viberation. It seems you didn't have any trouble shooting thru the prop. I shoot straight down out of the bottom of my plane but would rather shoot straight out from the cockpit for a more realistic view. If I have time this winter I'll build a plane designed for taking both still and video footage.

Dean,
I did use the mounting bolt BUT I also had 3 strong velcro straps wrapped around the camera and through the handle. I didnt want to rely soley on that bolt!
I thought about it last night and what I will try is to sandwich some thick receiver mounting foam (latex, right?) between the mounting plate and the camera and use the velcro straps.
I think shooting through the prop gave some fuzziness to the photos so I will try angling the camera just outside the prop arc. Also want to try backwards, as I have a smoke system on the plane and want to catch the action!
