Default Global Flyer has Landed @ 2:49 ET

While this is not RC Related, the Global Flyer piloted by Steve Fossett, finished its record setting flight to be the first solo jet powered aircraft to be piloted around the world without refueling. On Wednesday, Fossett broke the record for the longest nonstop, unrefueled flight by a jet. A B-52 bomber set that record of 12,532 miles in 1962. The first nonstop global flight without refueling was made in 1986 by Jeana Yeager and Dick Rutan, in the propeller-driven Voyager airplane. Dick Rutan's brother, Burt Rutan, is the designer of the GlobalFlyer and the Voyager as well as SpaceShipOne, which last year became the first privately developed craft to soar into outer space.

Simply Outstanding!!! Another Burt Rutan’s design in the record books. Great job also on the pilot, Steve Fossett, for flying it without sleep.

Wow! I am not going to be the one driving the pickup that dude is sitting in to make that flight.

You gotta love Rutans work! He has yet to miss. Sure glad I get to build one of his bird! The EZ rocks!

That is exactly what I was thinking.
Would make a great glider.
It could glide for 200 miles which would be about an hour at it's cruise speed.
SO when will these designs come out?

Absolutely! I have always been a fan of Burt & Dick ever since I saw an EZ as a young whippersnapper. Their
designs are just so against the grain and strikingly gorgeous i.e. EZ, Boomerang and the Pond Racer.

Congratulations to Steve Fosset on a record well broken and of course my hat's off again
to the pioneering vision of Scaled Composites and their whole engineering team,
they never cease to amaze!
