I have been guilty of the common servo reversing while the plane is running, before I got my JR8103 I had my first aerbatic plane a little 58Inch Wingspan Extra, well I had to swap some things on my standard 4 channel radio and yes while running in the pits I started to try to reverse the aileron servo which was backwards well you guessed it the first one I touched was the throttle and here she went and it is the little reversing switches, you guys know the ones in the inside of the front of the tranny and I couldn't get the screwdriver back on it to save my life, of course the panicking didn't help[X(] and finally I had to nose it over,,,,,,,

I tried to set some of the TX parameters for a model while flying. Unfortunately I switched to another model with different servo reverses. Luckily it was a wooden beginner sailplane which was easy to repair.

RE: The most stupid things we do
Beautiful day, Alpha .40 trainer on final approach, I get the bright idea to lean on my flight box (the thing is made of PVC pipe sitting on soft wet ground). The box tips over, I go with it, drop the tx, the plane does a Kamikaze dive into terra firma. Could've made a fire with what was left of the front of the fuse. D'OH

RE: The most stupid things we do
Well my latest was fixing a small ceiling hung P-51 that my son got for Christmas (from the AMA site). He somehow broke one of the propeller blades. Well, he was upset. So, I have done this before to fix small plastic parts. I heat up a pin or a piece of wire and push it in to both sides and it fuses it. Well, holding the pin in plyers and holding the prop in the other hand...wham. Red hot pin with melted plastic into my thumb. The tip of my thumb is still numb. That was a couple of days ago. It was worth it, my son is happy!!!
Well this is along with taking off with reversed ailerons - twice. Saved both planes. CAing my fingers to wings and each others and many other stupid things.

Hows about a glue + knife incident, titled "It was late, and I was Hungry."
After a stirring work session, I ended up with a nice thick coating of CA on my hands. Not wanting to taste CA in my food with every bite, and without the time or desire to go and try and break it with acetone, I decided well heck I'll just scrape it off with this razor blade. Of course, in the time it took to go and bandage my ravaged finger up, I could easily have made dinner in time. Didn't quite make the bone though, but I did manage to get a scar on my finger tip.

Thinking I could loop my Telemaster out of a low invereted pass..
I needed to be about 6 inches higher to clear the ground..
Thinking it would be cool to setup my Stick with all the Aleron throw I could get..
Wicked roll rate.. scary but got it down safe..

About gluing the wings upside down...
Remember the TF Headmaster? A new guy brings his newly completed Headmaster out to the field to be flight tested...
As a bunch of us are standing around admiring it (he did a nice job BTW ) we're all saying "something just sorta looks funny"...
He built the semi symetrical airfoil upside down...with the more curved surface on the bottom.
It flew, but needed a bit more speed than usual, but it flew inverted quite well, for that kind of airplane.

A buddy and I were flying our FB 100's in formation...
As we're going 'round the pattern, we got on the down wind leg to set up for a formation landing...we got seperated a little bit.
He says "my airplane's acting funny, it's not responding"
He was watching MY plane, and, you guessed it...boom![X(]

RE: The most stupid things we do
I belong to two clubs. One is a 5 minute drive and the other, a 20 minute drive. I fly both, glow and electric. I have a quite a few models and will transfer rx's and speed controls from one plane to another.
It was spring and I was dying to take my U Can Do and Sig Kougar out to the field (the one thats 20 minutes away). I hurriedly packed up the two glow planes and my brushless powered mini funtana. I get to the field, unpack the equipment. Oh ****!!!!! forgot
my stinkin transmitter. So I drive back home and grab the TX. Get to field and unpack again. Attach wing to the Sig Kougar. DUH!!!!
Forgot the stupid rx!!!! Matter of fact, forgot all the rx's I was gonna use. Go back home again and grab 3 rx's. Unpack again. Arrrgghhh!!!! Forgot the wing screws for both the U Can Do and Kougar. Go back home again and get screws and do all the unpacking again. Fuel up Kougar. Taxi to end of runway. Hit throttle. Engine stalls and dies. Carry plane to pitts. Notice fuel is leaking. Fuel tube that fits to the brass tube of the fuel tank has tear in it. I install new one. Start engine and taxi to end of strip.
Wind starts to get really furious (it was pretty cloudy with chance of rain but at first, was sunny out). I take off anyway. After being airborne for about 30 seconds, it starts to pour. I land the kougar. Starts raining pretty hard by now. Kougar's engine stops (probably from the rain). I run out to get plane. Slip on grass and fall on @$$!!! I'm wet, planes are wet, field box is wet!!!!
So, after running around collecting all my stuff, 2 hours of driving after forgetting stuff, rain debacle at field, I got to fly all of 30 seconds.

Hey Lightfoot, doesn't anyone check throws, retract
operation ? On a full scale, without a pre-flight this
would be suicide. I'm not critisizing your friend, but not
pre-flighting is inexcusable.

how do you check retract operation on a full scale?
how do you check retract operation on a full scale?
You put the plane on jacks and check the operation !!!! Normal operation on most inspections. ENJOY !!! RED

I launched a student's 1/2 A Texaco with the reciever off because I was distracted by his pretty mom. It resulted in his longest flight ever!

RE: The most stupid things we do
Well, let's see here. Stuck Exacto blade in foam rubber block to keep from losing it, found it one night with heel of my foot after it had fallen from the bench.
Loaded car in a hurry to go flying, found new respect for holding power of the rubber pads on my Kraft transmitter case after I stopped for gas and found Tx on roof of car.
Used the new ball link aileron connection from Dubro (1977). used a spring wheel retainer to hold it to servo arm instead of peening it like instructions said. It only took two flights for it to vibrate off and reduce a new sweet stick to scrap.
Found that a Tx antenna is no match for a spinning prop.
Made three right fuselage sides for a Sig aerobipe.
Gee I think I'll quit before I do something real dumb.

Doing touch and gos with my new Goldberg Super Chipmunk and stepped to one side so I wouldn't hit myself(feeling pretty cocky). Unfortunately, I was standing in front of my flight box. Major repair job.
Humble thumbs, fly with humble thumbs.

RE: The most stupid things we do
Had a buddy who wanted to lay down on the runway as I did a high-speed pass over him with my YS .63 powered P-51. We did it; I passed over him by about 4 feet, full throttle. He said it was pretty sweet though.
