How about different colored paint balls, trying to hit a target? If you can get 50 -100 of them in there, and drop from a sufficient altitude to break them, they'll make an impressive mess that'll wash away. Maybe even get someone to put on some safety glasses and be the target? Catch a red one, win $20? Warning: if you've never got hit by a paintball out of a gun, they do hurt a fair amount, and can leave welts & bruises depending on the velocity!

If this kids like mine, he'd be impressed if I dropped golf balls and then shot myself down from one bouncing back into my plane.
Hamsters sound safer, don't think they'd bounce much. But could chew a hole through the fuselage or get sucked into the slipstream and take the tail off. Shot down by a flying hamster, he'd love that too.
Cats would be too painful trying to put them in the box, unless, of coarse, you use a kitty downer like what they use at the airport. But then the kitty may be too stoned to chase the hamster, and that would'nt be any fun. You could let kitty chase the hamster into the box, that way kitty has an in-flight meal before he gets to the drop zone and you will still be dropping a cat and hamster, but only need one parachute.
Then, while floating down, kitty gets sick and pukes the hamster back up. That would impress him.

Your wing, bet he'll love to see a flying missle. Most kids I run to say theyd crash one on purpose to see it crash, but since hes into R/C, he might take it a bit differ, but a flying fus with no wing is still impressive, been there, done that!!!!!!

Confetti works nice.
Maple tree seeds-you know, the whirly things-look pretty neat too.
Combining things can have an interesting effect.
You could borrow, buy, or make a piggyback bracket and haul his glider up with your plane. (Towing is rather difficult and requires a rather powerful engine.)

If you haven't found one yet, here's the site: http://www.hobby-lobby.com/atricks.htm
I bought one but have yet to install it. I built one right into the fuse of a trainer that I had and it worked great. I crashed the trainer and didn't want to go through the work of doing it again so I bought the box. It's cheap, easy to attach (with elastics) and the construction isn't bad. I have video of my para drops but don't know how to post it here.
Good luck.

RE: what to drop from drop box to impress a child?
I asked the little boy next door this question while he was in my shop earlier. Without hesitation he said "frogs"! [sm=spinnyeyes.gif]
I laughed for ten minutes. Then he explained that he was thinking about a frog outfitted with a parachute not just the frog by itself. If you wanted to impress a child, you should ask one.
