Finally! A use for the Infrared Temp Guage
Today, I found a use for these ridiculous temperature guages that many have. I see guys taking a reading all the time yet no specs of any kind for glow engines and I sit back and laugh . I have one just for the novelty of it . My dog has been a bit sick and the Vet wanted me to take its temperature to check for a fever. Trying to place a thermometer up a chihuahuas butt is just not worth it.
I asked him about these infrared temp guages and he said it would be fine by just aiming it in the dogs ear and getting a reading. No muss, no fuss. FYI the average temp range for a dog is around 99.5 to 102.5.

I use mine for checking the temperature for everything BUT my RC engines. sometimes my fresh-outta-the-fridge beer, somtimes pop tarts, sometimes even my clothes when they come outta the dryer.
I had an old beater Isuzu Trooper (great truck btw) that had a non-functioning temp gage, so periodically when driving for more than a half hour, i temped the thermostat housing. that actually saved the 200k mile engine from eating a head gasket

I use mine to check the temp of the asphalt I am going to race on and adjust the shore of my tires accordingly. I do use it on the break in bench on actual motors, but just to make sure they don't go crazy hot. There are no hard and fast rules for temp on heads, but I have discovered that a diff was dry by using one and you can take a number of readings on a particular engine on a given day and see if it is running lean, but most of the time I run rich anyway, so it is really better for checking out girls at bars temp. Makes for a good opener!

I actually have a use for mine. Li-Po batteries do not like a lot of heat. To keep from destroying them you have to keep the heat down to something like 145 deg F or so. My heavier electrics pull a lot of amps and I can keep an eye on the batteries with my guage.
I know that doesn't mean anything to you guys with gas only planes.
I also check the temp of my monokote iron with it!
And, the temp of my outside grill that has no temp guage!

I like the idea of checking your food temp at the resteraunt. My wife always complains the food is cold.
I was playing with my laser tempgun the other day:

When I did the walk-through inspection of my new house 2years ago, I used my MiniTemp MT4 to scan the entire house. It was in August and I found several hotspot on outside walls and showed them to the builder. He was kinda embarrassed that he had to tear up the drywall and re-insulate, but he was very interested in the laser temp gun. I let him borrow it for a few days to show to his pals.
I liked mine so much I just got a ST20.

Yeh, he snapped out of it. He is going on 4 and had him from a pup and he had his first grooming. (I always trimmed him) So he got a bit traumatized on me but a few days later he was back to his old self------------------You know, I started this thread as a bit of a joke but looks like we have many legitimate uses for this guage eh?

72F is meatlocker indeed.
We keep our house at 78F thru the summer months. Tried 76F for a while but everybody started putting on sweaters. I think it has to do with the 100F and 100% RH here. Besides, if I did keep it at 72F, my electric bill will be bigger than my mortgage payment.[]

Yeh , he is a fully bonified Longhaird Chihuahua. I won a TX at an airshow 4 years ago. He was 8 weeks old. I did not need the TX and traded the TX to a guy who had the pup at the airshow right on the spot.. We were loking around anyways for a buddy for the other dog.

I did use mine to check the temp on the RC car engines but i dont run them any more so i play with the cat with it. It drives him crazy trying to catch something that is not there to catch. But it seems every one has a use for theres and some are good ones.
