Lets see your Biplane!!!

RE: Lets see your Biplane!!!
Got a few pics of biplanes from days gone by. The first is a Byron Christen Eagle powered by an ST 3000, I don't remember the covering I used other than it was a low heat film in black, but the "feather" scheme was done with 4 different colors of 1/8" automotive pin stripping with each feather being laid out in a silver, blue, red and gold pattern. Although the plane required a better pilot that I was at the time to be a long lasting success (if you ever owned a Byron Christen Eagle or Pitts, you can probably relate to my statement), I think it was one of the best looking planes I have ever assembled. The blue plane is a Pica 1/5 scale Waco YMF-5 powered by an ST2000 and is done in the color scheme of a Disney movie airplane (which I think in the movie was really a Stearman) called "the Blue Yonder". I taped the show on my VCR and could stop motion on the plane to get the color patterns and the design of the logo on the side. Once again, a nicer plane than I was a flyer at the time. It did live long enough to be sold at an auction. My last pictures are of my most favorite biplane, a Smith MiniPlane. This one is a 43% scratch built, done by a guy in East Texas named Carl Orbison. It passed thru many hands before I got it and totally rebuilt it, some 15 years or so after it was first built. It is covered with Oracover, painted with PPG automotive Urethane in the SIG color scheme, and is powered by a 5.2 Sachs engine. All my planes at the time were controlled by an Airtonics Championship 7 radio system (AM). Notice the 1986 on the tail fin of the Waco, which was the year it was built. The MiniPlane was later in the early 90's and my Championship 7 had been converted to FM at that time. I left the hobby in the mid 90's, returned this year. I now have a 27% scratch built Ultimate powered by a 3.2 Sachs and have the plans, servos, and cowling already purchased for another big Smith MiniPlane in the future. Already did the Gee bee Z great in the air terrible on theground. other than the dr1 my only war bird is top flight giant F4U corsair kit that I'm just getting started on. Next it's a 33% extra 330 this should be different because I only fly two planes with one wing everything else is a bipe even my foamy is a bipe great planes reflection.
Bull -rcu how do you like the wildhare ultimate, and your waco?

Sorry to hear about your house that really sucks.
Believe it or not the corsair is not for me it's my wife's favorite plane to many reruns of Ba Ba black sheep I like to build but it always takes a while the aeromaster took four years off and on.
I'm just now getting the waco dialed in and I'm pushing more into 3d just to see what it can do. flight time in Kansas city is short as well dark by 5:00pm and getting colder each week we've had snow already but it did'nt stick. good luck with the ultimate looks like a nice plane

Ben, your Ag Cat on floats looks really good. What's the wingspan? And what size engine are you using on it? It seems to be about the size I have in mind for an Ag Cat I've ben wanting to build, and yours may be just the "Push" I needed to get going on it. Good job man.

Hi Floater - RCU, I'm just getting ready to start my CG Bucker Jungman build after Christmas. I've picked up a Moki 135 to stick in the nose of it. I see you don't like the YS 120 in yours, what do you think about my selection ??
Thanks and Merry Christmas

Hi GPutt, I'm not that familiar with Moki's but I'm sure you will have plenty of power. Mine came out at 10 pounds with the YS120. As far as the YS goes it is the most cantankerous no good fer nothin motor I've ever seen. Lots of power when it works but just plain junk. I only keep it because it was so expensive and I'm stubborn. I would never buy another YS of any kind.
The Bucker on the other hand is one of my favorite planes and probably one of the easiest aerobatic planes to fly. It sure can make me look like a lot better pilot than I am!
Good luck with yours and Merry Christmas.
As I was sending this post I remembered something that I thought you might like to know. When you build your wings it will call for you to finish them so that you will have to reach into the wing with forceps to take your inter-plane struts on and off. This is not good. I was forewarned and built new ribs with attachment points on them. Much better. I think I had read about it in an RCM build article. It has been a few years so my memory isn't clear on it.

To repeat an old saying, "Real airplanes have round engines and two wings". I have a WWI Fok D-VII. 49" span, .52 4 stroke. If I ever figure out my scanner I'll add to the pictures.

Sportsman Aviation .30 size Waco ARF with an OS .32F with pitts style muffler and 11x4 prop. Very small, and the hardest plane to land I've flown. Also, not for dark, cloudy days or flying at dusk, that's for sure.
I also have a Kyosho Tiger Moth half built that I'm going to paint in a wartime camo scheme.
