A great man/modeler passes.

There will be no services in Florida; Art is being cremated and his ashes will be interned with full honors at Arlington National Cemetery.

RE: Col. Art Johnson
Wow...another earthly Hero gone too soon.
Col. Art was an inspiration to many of us wanna-be Scale Modelers. I'll never forget seeing his original P/F-82 in the pages of RCM. It is still my favorite airplane (See my call-sign!)
I corresponded with the Col. numerous times over the last years. He never failed to reply to my e-mails. I ordered his plans for the big F-82 and now I KNOW that project is next in line. I'll probably do it up as a monument bird to him.
I trust his family knows the impact he had on the modeling world. It was great & far-reaching! What a wife he had that she would be involved with him in his hobby.
So Long, Col. Art. You will be deeply missed.
Respectfully,
Wally Warren (F82FAN)

RE: Col. Art Johnson
I too am very sad to know that Col. Art Johnson is no longer with us. I still have it very fresh in my mind when I went to my very first scale radio control contest held in Miami's FIU University grounds (back in 1977 - 78 I believe), there was an actual runway back then, that was used for model airplane use only, and Col. Johnson had his incredible P-38 at the meet, Dave Platt was also there, but I don't remember what he was flying, in those years one was able to walk around the airplanes and talk to the builders/flyers without any problem or barriers, and for free!, this meet and the incredible P-38 and the flying demonstration put out by this man hooked me up into this wonderful hobby for life, living in Miami and being able to enjoy many scale meets around the state, I saw the Colonel do his thing, he was always great to watch, thanks Col. Art Johnson for the beautiful moments and memories you have given us in our modeling world.
