We have an event held twice a year at the field that only one club member participates in. Why do we keep holding these events? The events do not seem to raise any money for the club.
I think that an event should draw at least 5 members or raise money for the club/charity. Having talked to some others, I am not the only one that feels this way. What do you think?

I have found a way to setup a weather station at our flying field and have it connected to the internet.
http://www.ambientweather.com/da66206357kit.html
$635 Includes the cost of a SIMM chip. The yearly cost of telecommunications is below. Roughly $900 for first year.... $239/yr after that.
You also need to pay a yearly fee to davis instument for 5($239),15($180), or 60($120) minute data updates.
There are no cell phone bills to pay... this is it.
This might save you a couple of drives to the field to find out the wind is howling...

Yeah, you are right, it is a solution without a problem.
Just like the windows, doors and walls in the shelter are a solution without a problem. Just like the paved sidewalks are a solution without a problem.
How many trips have you taken to the field only to find out you don't want to fly because of the wind conditions? How long of a drive, loading and unloading time did you waste that you could have been doing something else?

'Ha Ha, I don't know if you are even being serious! For the record you are certainly aware that I haven't had any issues with the other projects .... I think this is just a Trojan Horse - make a crazy request then relent and ask what you really want... like a charging station (that I could get behind).

Hey, I support that request... I helped install the wiring last fall for the charging stations. I bought an inverter generator so that I can use the wiring this year.
As to the weather station... I would love to have it, but recognize that it is probably never going to happen. At $900, I don't think that it is crazy! Who Knows.
It would be nice to have a moving web cam at the field that panned back and forth showing you the flags and who is in the parking lot.
I would love to be able to have my own cargo container at the field like some other fields do.
As usual, I have a million wants, and 10 million needs...

So, you just arrived at the flying field and found two locks on the gate. What's up with that?
Gary decided to put a second lock on the gate during periods of FAA TFR (Temporary Flight Restiction). The second lock means that flying is prohibited, thinking about flying is prohibited, looking at the sky is prohibited, and yelling at Gary (or me) is prohibited at all times that the second lock is in place. Please forward all complaints to your congress person, the FAA, the TSA or your priest.
If you absolutely, positively have to have access, please call Gary or Myself for the code.

Donald Trump offers to help a VET in need.
Todd Landen asked Trump a question,
And was guaranteed that he would get the help he needs.

Reported on RCU that NVRC loses field- unconfirmed but seems credible- according to the message posted as coming from NVRC president, it was due to Fairfax County's interpretation of the 15 and 30 mile no fly zones (from National) - we need to be diligent about this as we could be in the same situation:
"NVRC Field Update
NVRC Field Remains Closed
I sent our County Park official an email letting him know about our status. As of today, I did not receive a reply. I sent an email to Rich Hanson asking about his emails that were sent to the FAA asking for clarification/support to show the County that the intent is not to close down any AMA fields. I am waiting for a reply. I will reach out to them again tomorrow and as soon as I hear something I will let everyone know. The field is closed because of the interpretation by the County that we should not be flying within the SFRA zone which was extended from 15nm to 30nm. Other AMA clubs in the area are open that are within that zone but are not in Fairfax County. Our relationship with the County has been excellent and we have been good occupants of the NVRC field at Poplar Ford Park. I am confident that we will be able to show the County that AMA fields were not intended to be part of this new advisory and we will get back in the air. If you have any information that can be beneficial, please let me know. Your cooperation and patience are appreciated as we work through this situation.
Thanks!

From everything I've read, model aircraft operations are only prohibited in the FRZ portion of the SFRA. Was there a new ruling issued by the FAA to increase this to the entire SFRA?

“Model aircraft must not operate in Prohibited Areas, Special Flight Rule Areas or, the Washington National Capital Region Flight Restricted Zone, without specific authorization.” - Pg. 3, first full paragraph
##
Depending on how you interpret the above statement it could mean several things. If you look up the ADIZ/SFRA region, it encompasses a region 30mn around the DC area which includes the FSA flying field. I'm not so much concerned about the FAA "shutting us down" so much as I'm concerned that the county has the power to independently evaluate our location based on interpretation of the new circular. Good or bad, it was made vague by the FAA for a reason.
Of bigger concern is if the county gets involved, Mr. Konterra may begin to view us as a liability. This could lead to the field being closed, not by choice, but to avoid any impacts to his business. I'm sure he's a great gentleman but, he's going to protect his business the people they employ before he defends a couple hundred hobbyists who provide him no income. Just being honest.
