Painted ACES OF IRON lets see yours
I finished this one today, its for my new Balsa USA Fokker DVII. Here is his story;
Here is a picture of the new Aces of Iron figure, made exclusively for SR Batteries. Johan started his military career with the artillary, after volunteering for the air service and a year in scouts he was transfered to a Marine Jasta to fly the new DVII. Far up in the clouds the very air freezes, Johan has learned that his Artillary great coat is far warmer than the dashing but chilly leather flying coats that have been issued to new pilots.

Thanks Tailskid.
Kakem, yours is way better than mine......your coat looks real. The face colors are also much better. I am learning as I go along, next time I will try oil paints for doing the face. My Pup is getting closer and closer to needing a pilot.

These Aces of Iron sure beat the old bland pilots that used to be the norm.

Here's a tip for anyone who wants to try the Aces of Iron Painting Guide using oils but doesn't want to spend lots for all the tubes of oils. This set of paints is made by a company called Craft House (Http://www.crafthouse.net, from the menu, selet "Paint by Numbers" then "Canvas Series). The set contains a paint by number on canvas, 11 tubes of artist oils, two brushes and a mixing pallet. The set retails for $19.99 and I found it at Ross for $6.99 (Check your local AAron Brothers, Michaels or discount stores). The set contains all the recommended colors for the Aces of Iron flesh tones and then some.

This is a bit off topic but I had to do it. I have a pet peeve regarding pilot figures in scale models. It has nothing to do with painting them but rather their sizes. Or to be more specific, not scale size. I hate to see a fantastic scale model, say of a P-40, finished to the nines with detail over every inch, yet when I look in the cockpit I find a teenie little figure that if we were to judge the model's full size by the size of the pilot figure, P-40s would have actually been as large as C-54s! Why when all the effort is put forth in the model not go ahead and put a pilot figure in the cockpit that is scale size. Even a rough carved figure is better that a Leprechaun! I guess some builders figure that somethng in the cockpit, no matter the size is better than no pilot figure at all (another thing I hate to see) I'm done. These Iron Aces are great, good job guys.

Nice looking pilots everybody! Here's one I just did in artist's oils. I reworked his nose a little with some epoxy putty because it was a little too sharp as it was. The hardest part was the goggle lenses!

Thanks khodges, the fleece collar was painted with a very off-white, almost tan color, then an even darker gray-brown was used to shade it and add a little depth here and there, then pure white was used to highlight a few areas and then the whole thing was blended together a little to even it out.
I agree with you about adding a piece of real cloth to the scarf, that would look great blowing in the breeze!
