For fun, what what you say was the best Plane (Kit, ARF, or RTF), or related product(tools, electronics, materials) to come onto the market in 2005? We will call this RCU Members BEST OF 2005 Award!

To start things off, I would have to say that the New Hangar 9 P-51 PTS was at the very least a well discussed new product that came out in 2005! Who would have thought a P-51 as a Trainer? I have never owned one, and probally never will, but I do think it was a hot topic for 2005, and innovative to Hangar 9's credit!

but it has not reached greatness yet. It is still just a park flyer radio, and no one has risked it in a glow plane as far as i've heard. The innovation behind the product is great but it is not completely usable yet. I would agree on the P-51 PTS though.

Spectrum, without a doubt. May revolutionise RC. I've seen a second company jump into the fray. Admitedly it's not ready for all around use, but it is still has the greatest potential.

A second company? Jumping into the SS fray? This will get interesting, even more so when the other major radio makers jump into the fray.

I wonder if that guy used his standard servos or the micros,, I have been considering buying one to put in my UCANDO .46 I usely don't get it over about 300 yards away at the most, the only thing I was worried about was the 5 standard servos on the receiver???????couldthey overload the receiver or not????????I don't know anything about this,

there are several people useing the new DSS radios in planes bigger then your park flyers, yes your standard servos will plug and play with the mini receiver. correct me if i am wrong, but i heard they are also testing the DSS is larger aircraft at AMA headquaters.

IMHO, the important thing about the Spektrum isn't if it can or can't be used or should or should not be used in a glow or gas plane. The important thing is that we are seeing the beginning of what will likely be the next big thing, and someone has shown that you CAN do this in an airplane, with all the problems that come with a receiver moving totally free in 3 dimentions.

If you think about it, we've been using basically the same stuff for 20+ years now. This is the first really new thing in our Rf link since PCM first appeared (and PCM isn't really that big of a deal, just an enhancement of PPM).

So even if this first system isn't perfect, it's the beginning of the next thing, and that's cool.

Specktrum Radio [sm=thumbup.gif][sm=thumbup.gif][sm=thumbup.gif] It's not recommended... but I have it in a 40 sz profile with 5 regular servos. Works great!!!!

I would have to agree that the Spektrum DX-6 radio is very innovative and a great new product. Same goes for the PTS Mustang trainer from Hangar 9. But the product that really rang my bell was / is the new 4-stroke gasoline engines from Fuji/Great Planes these new powerplants are amazing! I have the Fuji 34 in a 1/3-scale Pietenpol and it performs beautifully while turning crazy big wood. I am turning a Zinger 22x10 prop with it and it produces gobs of thrust. I believe Greg Hahn has on in his 1/4-scale 88-inch Fokker D-VII. also performs very well. As for ARFs, the new hangar 9 P-47 Thunderbolt 150 is up there as well as the ARFs from Quique Samonzini. His 120 size Yak is a wonderful design and a great value.

It isn't? My how time creeps by the older you get <NOT>

PS We have one man training on a .40 sized 3 channel (I think) trainer and is using one of those Spekrum radios and I think he range checks his radio on every flight. You know how newbies like to get high and far away.....he does all the time - and his plane is still in one piece! Go figure....
