What to do with a pile of surplus parts?
I'm graduating college in a couple of months and I have a pile of orphaned fuses and wings. I don't have the time or desire to rebuild them and I am not going to take them with me when I move. I would gladly give them to someone who could put them to use, but it would be a PITA to box and ship them. If they get to their destination in worse shape then they already are, it really wouldn't be worth it. Unless someone can come up with a better idea, they will all go up in a bonfire. Any suggestions?

There must be a local club around that you could just drop the stuff on and let them find someone that can use the stuff. Maybe you can even find some one that want's to get into RC that could use it.
Dropping it off to a club would be my choice: I've done that with a few things when folks have passed away and the wife ask us to get rid of it for her. Good Luck ENJOY !!! RED

How about the local Boy Scout troop ??? or surely the Local Hobby Shop knows of a deserving R/C Buff who is a little short on Bucks. Might be worth a try. That failing, the local Police department might have a program for Urban youths that could put them to good use.
Or, just box them up, and send them to Piper Chuck. He probably has the required pieces from all his crashes.
and he could have all new planes without having to get MRS. Chucks permission.

Gravity - I think you should find a local club and just ask them if they'd be interested. Never know when they could come up with a trainer to use for folks. I'm not sure if your now located in Platteville, WI, but if you are here are a couple of contacts I found using [link=http://www.towerhobbies.com/rcwairclub.html]Bill Lee's AMA Dist VIII Club Locator.[/link] If your at some other place then Platteville, just type in the radius in miles your willing to meet someone and your zip code.
Here's what I found within 25 miles of 53818:
PLATTEVILLE AREA MODELERS
JOSEPH J BASS [email protected]
4280 CR D
PLATTEVILLE WI 53818
Home Phone: 608.348.4434
and
TRI STATE MODELERS

4924 RED VIOLET DR
DUBUQUE IA 52002-0478
Home Phone: 319.584.2384

Hope this helps a little. Good Luck

RE: What to do with a pile of surplus parts?
Here's the problem with the local club thing. I'm a member of the Platteville Area Modelers. All of the planes are .40 sized and no one in the club is really into .40 sized stuff anymore. I guess I just assumed that no one would want them, but I'll ask. Weather permitting, we're having a cookout for our next meeting. I'll just bring all the stuff and the stuff that no one wants will be sacrificed in a plume of balsa smoke. Thanks for the advice.

I just had a crazy idea for a club contest. We could split the club into 2 groups and split the pile of parts. We could set a time limit of a couple of hours and see if we can get two planes that are flyable. If I can get the members to temporarily donate a couple engines and radio systems, this could work. What do you guys think? How long do you think it would to get a plane flying from a pile of pieces?

Pimp my plane sounds good, several of my planes need it and I spend far too much on the hobby to get to them One of the local clubs in the area did have a Junkyard Wars competition though it only lasted 2 seasons. Only took 2~3 to build flyable planes from scratch. See the following link for details,

Also, one other suggestion, if you can't give the planes away, and fireworks are available in your area, well...

I wish you were close-Boy Scout Troops-aviation merit badge-I am currently the aviation merit badge counselor for the Troop- we have 112 boys registered at this time-not that there is 112 boys taking the merit badge but more would if they had the funding or materials

At one time we had an official "kill plane." It was a real "POS." We used it when there were guys who would just not follow the rules. He would fly where ever he wanted to and so the kill plane flew the same way while the rest of us stayed down and watched.

I realize that you are trying to get rid of the airframe, but couldn't resist. Our club had an auction and one seller had this solution for parts! It was about 1.5 times longer, and twice as thick as a normal sized pillow. It was the hit of the "show"
