Default help me please....I don't know what I have

Here are a couple of pictures of some of my fathers planes I have. He loved flying models and building them, but I know nothing about them. These are in the best shape and look as they could fly today. There are 3 others but they don't look so good. The red one doesn't look like it was flown very little. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have no idea about what engines might be in them or anything. I only suspect the red one to be a f series model but have no idea who may of made the kits. Thanks guys in advance.

The Bipe (red One) looks like a Pica Waco, and the other is a TopFlite Contender.

Engines usually have some kind of manufactureur's stamp on the side of the cylinder. (Will require removing the prop, then the cowl on the Biplane.) Initials will be something like, OS, KB, TT, as well as a size (on the other side of the cylinder), like, 70, 91.

A four stroke engine will have two tubes running from the front (or rear) by the crankshaft up to the top of the cylinder head, a two stroke won't.

Potential buyers (if you're thinking of selling), will want to know what radio equipment is mounted in the plane. Inside the plane (you'll have to remove the wing(s)), you'll find a "receiver" (little black box with five or six wires coming from it), it will have a name and model number on it. The "servos" will have rods or cables connected to them, and will also have a name and model number.

Nice planes by the way.

The value of both will depend to some degree on the engines, and to a lesser degree on the radio equipment.

The Contender is a tough call because it's an older plane (kit) not produced anymore, so it would depend on whether or not you "found" the right buyer. It is consider somewhat of a classic and appears to be in good condition. Personally, I'd place the value at somewhere around $400 to $500 in value to a "sport flyer".

The Waco's value too would depend on engine and radio gear, the engine more so than in the Contender, because the Contender obviously has a two stroke. If the Waco has a good four stroke in it, that could change it's value by as much as say $75 over a two stroke. The Waco also appears to be in very good condition.

I'd have to place it's value at closer to $600 or perhaps a bit more. Again, depending on the engine, radio equipment, and the buyer.

Shoot us some photos of the engines and such... Do you have any interest in learning to fly? If you do, find a trainer, and someone to help you, and save these babies for later, they are both good planes.

Actually, most of the planes are going to have to go. I recently moved to NJ from Indiana with my wife and baby and need the money right now. I've never been into them before but since doing all this researching online and reading its starting to definately peek my interest. Im sure I will save one of the older planes to restore and fly someday. Ive uploaded a couple of pictures of the engine which looks to be in great shape. It has .60 and PDP on the block. Thanks guys

Heres another plane someone is interested in buying and I have no idea what it is. Its missing an engine and I dont even know how the wing affixes to the top. I believe there is something missing.

The blue one is a "Parasol" plane due to the wing being attached above the plane on "cabane" struts, and no bottom wing.

In this model, the wing would actually attach with rubber bands running from the "pegs" at the front and rear of the cabanes over the wing. So the only thing missing is the #64 rubber bands.

It would be difficult to afix a value without seeing/hearing/knowing a little more detail, like kit manufacturer and wingspan, but I'd guess at around $100 depending on condition.

Just my opinion though, as it wouldn't really interest me.

The bipe engine is more than likely an "HB" .60-.61 with Perry directional porting, or PDP made in Germany, and a good one. Not cheap either- around 250+ for a newer version.

Hey Jetts,
Where can I buy a bushed engine for $250? You'd think at that price it would have a front bearing.

Richard,

I was quoting the PDP version, no trade, averaged with the plain version with trade in, carry the used factor, and that's how I got that price.

J Crash,

I have to correct you....we all have a disease, and we have from 1 second to 99 years, depending on a few factors such as smoking, diet and smart ass factor......
Think about that and MACH SHNELL!!!

$500 for a fixed gear sport plane? I have to respectfully disagree; I'd say closer to $250 w/engine and radio, tops. I bought an assembled 70's era built Kwik Fli III in good condition for $40, no engine radio of course. The older equiptment just won't add that much to an airframe. Now if it were a glass fuse pattern ship, say a Tiporare or Illusion with Rhom air retracts, a tuned pipe and servos, yeah, a half G would be plausible.
