JET PILOT
Going back to MrMulligan's mention of the John Wayne movie Jet Pilot, the aerial scenes were truly the best parts of that movie, and it was no wonder as one of those Sabres were flown by none other than Chuck Yeager himself.

Another vote for Battle of Britain and Tora Tora Tora.
However, I absolutely loved the flight scenes in "Dark Blue World". It really is a great movie if you love Spitfires. I must have watched the DVD 5 or 6 times already...

Right now I would have to say that mine is "The Flight of the Phoenix"
I love the part where Jimmy Stewart asks Handy Krueger what the largest plane he designed was and Krueger replies proudly "two meters!"......those of you who saw the movie know why that is funny. And those of you who build model airplanes were not surprised at all when the "Phoenix" flew.

What about movies with RC planes?
There was a low budget kids movie called "Remote Control". Kind of cheezey, but if you want a night with the kids and see some planes and helicopters too, dig at the video store and get it.
Short Circuit 2 (They fly planes right in the middle of sky scrapers)
There's another kids show (maybe Disney) where the 9 year old girls flys the Cristen Eagle bipe like Chip Hyde. Anyone remember the name of that one?

A few years ago there was a miniseries on PBS about a Spitfire squadron. They had gathered together about 8 Spits to make it. I can't for the life of me remember the name of the series (senior moment). Any help out there? the formation grass takeoffs were a highlight.

If I remeber correctly,
There were also some nice flying of a curtiss jenny in "high road to china"
And for those of you who are interested, a good recent movie is "dark Blue World"....it is another 'love story WWII aviation movie' But I promise that the love story isn't as bad as "pearl harbor'

Movie Help
What's the old movie about the P-47 squadron? It used P-51's as german fighters. It was in color I think. I remember watching it as a kid when I was staying home from school if I was sick. I can't remeber much beyond that...

Mr Mulligan,
The PBS series was called "Piece of Cake". You see the tapes for sale in the mail order catalogs every once in awhile.
The part I liked in that series was when HQ decided to install gun cameras in their Spitfires. After a couple of dogfights, the pilots gathered to review the movies and were astounded to find that they were sometimes shooting at their own squadron mates. The "victim" told his buddy-"I'm glad you're such a lousy shot".

The Blue Max
Many years ago, I met the pilot who flew the triplane under the bridge in the movie "The Blue Max" (Derek Piggot from England). This stunt was accomplished using real aircraft and real people, no models or computer tricks. He said that the only aid he had doing that stunt were two sticks on the opposite side of the bridge. He steered the Fokker until the sticks were perfectly aligned with each other-this gave him the minimum wing clearance he needed to miss the bridge supports.
The scattering sheep were also his idea.

I think the movie, with the P-47's and P-51B's incognito, was Fighter Squadron.
Anybody remember "The McConnel Story" based on the life of the Top American ace of the Korean War?

He was a mad keen aeromodeller, just after WWII, and was the first person I ever heard of mounting a camera to a free flight model. That was not only pre-proportional, but pre anything except single channel radio control, and the 'Galloping Ghost'.
Anybody remember those?
