Chip Hyde attends Brazil's largest R/C meet
The 21st Festival Brasileiro de Aeromodelismo (FEBRAER) - aka 21st Brazilian Aeromodeling Festival was the best of them all.
Held at the gorgeous facilities of the Wings of the Valey Model Club in the city of Gaspar, Santa Catarina State, Brazil it had world stars like Chip Hyde attending.
The world famous Brazilian Air Force's Demonstration Squadron, known by all Brazilians as the "Esquadrilha da Fumaça" or Smoke Squadron for those of you not versed in Portuguese (I know only a few are not . . .) made a beautiful demonstration on Saturday afternoon.
They fly the Embraer's T-27 Tucano and do present a great show. If you want to see more about them, take a look at [link=http://www.fab.mil.br/eda/eindex.htm]Smoke Squadron[/link], their English version website.
This year, the FEBRAER got 627 pilots signing in, an all time record.
This meet is the largest in Latin Americaand always has an average of 500-plus pilots attending its 3-day event.
Modelers from all over Brazil and several other countries in South America participated, mainly from Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay.

A few pictures:
This is Chip Hyde (on the right) and Marcelo Colombo, from Argentina, preparing Chip's Yak-54 for another flight.
The "Smoke Squadron" wrote a few nices things in the beautifull south Brazil sky, on Saturday:

Yes, I heard he is going to be on the Brazilian FAI team.

Don't think so. The rules from the Brazilian equivalent to AMA require the members of the Brazilian Team in any World Championship to be in the top ranking for that specific category. Today this means you must participate and rank in some 4-5 regional contests plus the Brazilian National Championship (mandatory). And you must be a resident in Brazil.
But, there is no doubt that Chip Hyde and Quique Somenzini are model roles (pum intended) for the young Brazilian pilots.
