Hey!! Just WHAT is Hobby Lobby trying to do?
I note one of the banner adverts at the moment is for -
"The BIGGEST and noisiest park flier..."
Now I have no problem with "biggest" claims if they can be substantiated.
But NOISIEST?
Doesn't our sport have enough problems with noise already???

Agree with you both, although I also did a double take; also wondered what market they were trying to appeal to when I saw another recent offering advertised as "overpowered"...

OK, so this is what HobbyLobby think people want?
How many clubs have lost their flying sites or are under threat in the past twelvemonth because of noise complaints? :stupid: It doesn't matter if the culprit is a local idiot flying on the local park, the "victims" of the noise are going to sieze upon the most permanent and visible representation of the sport - the local club(s).
Doesn't that matter? Is it more important to find a "catch" to sell more systems? Is "noise" what this sport is about? Is "nitro" the only thing that gives you a buzz.
I am finding this very difficult to understand.
I am going out to fly a pollution free glider.

Ahh the MobyDick
Yeah that sure is a beauty to fly. Not noisey with a .46 on it at all. You should see how easily it lands, I had everyone at the field asking if it was set for spoilers as well as flaps. Looks really good in the air.

The fact that there is a thread devoted specifically to a single banner certainly demonstrates its effectiveness. And that is the most you could hope for from a banner advertisement. Some electric guys are way to serious and passionate about their niche. I prefer that an airplane sound like one. The auditory portion of flying model airplanes is just as important as the visual portion. A large part of the turbine market's success is directly related to how they sound and smell.
It's all about keeping it real. But, then again, they're not flying through parks and backyards either...to each their own...I guess?

Joann, some people just don't get it. Gates are down, lights are flashing but the train ain't coming! I don't know how many times I've been asked at work "Are you the guy that flies the toy planes. NO, I fly scale or even model planes. They're all real planes. Some are just bigger than others.
Anyway, don't ever let anyone take the fun out of this habit, oh I mean, hobby for you.
If you're ever in Western New York................

Hey!! Just WHAT is Hobby Lobby trying to do?
its just an electric fun fly that cant do that
ok, so its a large slow fly, good step for learners,
BUT! theres a big problem with selling it as a park flyer, so far the kids just crash those tiny planes into things and people, and go home with bits and a few angry words, this could cause a lot more damage, a 46/ large electric motor isn't slow in any plane.
So now newbies get their hands on a nice easy plane to fly, then try it in a park with the radio that transmitts more than a few yards, after crashing the local clubs planes they hit ... something.
OH dear.
good plane, BAD marketing

Actually it might not be the best airplane for beginners, especially if it is to be converted to Glow power. Everything has to be fuel proofed and all wing hinge material has to be changed when converting from electric.
The wing does flex during flight, but in a kewl way that might not help the beginner either. Wing is held together with center plate, two metal rods,6 pieces of brass tubing, a set of eyelets, and a rubber-band. The steel rods are slid into brass bushings that run through the center plate and about 6 inches into each wing. A beginner will probably rip the wings off of this with over control and high speed dives. I was doing ver high pitch, low speed dives with mine. Wow talking about kewl looking. Read this months's review on the MobyDick and feel free to ask any questions about it...

yep, RCU's review tells you exactly what it is, however, kids seeing big PARKflyer might be won over, its better than any Stick right?
so learners now mannage to build it, then rip the wing off. motor + cells/ 46 = big holes
i have no problem with the plane for what its meant to do, just the word Parkflyer and what that currently means.
Slowfly would have suited it better.

Huge: 79-1/2” wingspan, 53-1/2” long, 1050 sq.in. wing area, 92 oz. (glow), 103 oz. (electric) flying weight.
I would be a bit more concerned with the weight factor in this model and advertising it as a PARKFLYER.
A six pound, 46 powered model is NOT a park flyer.
