Concrete (or Asphalt) or Grass Runway
Tipp City brings back great memories. Back in the mid 60's I took off in a Dayton Pilots Club Cessna 172 from Montgomery County Airport and ran out of gas and landed in farm field in a Amish area near Tipp City. After 2 hrs I found a really nice guy who towed the plane out of the furrows onto grass. He sold me 5 gallons of leaded gas (argggggg) and he pointed the direction to Cox Municiple Airport. I took off just before WHIO & WLW-D TV got there and very luckily landed at Cox with only a drop of fuel left. When I think about this now I can't believe how stupid you can be when you are a kid. The Dayton Pilots Club was not real happy however I maintained my membership. By the way our RC Club flys off of a 600 ft x 50 ft asphalt runway. Good thread.

Concrete (or Asphalt) or Grass Runway
Hello, all:
We have seven fields, one is in grass for the sail plane boys, the others are all paved with rwy lengths from 300' to 4000' for the heavy metal.
Visit our site and be jealous:

Don't you wish you lived here?
On pavement a twin is fine, on grass it still toes the line.
Bill.

Lets see 2 nice Asphalt fields one they hold the TOC on. 500 x550 aspha;t area at Lake Mead National Recreation Area. then there are the dry lakes large but dirty. Does lake water count?
No real grass to fly off . Otherwise we have it pretty good here in Las Vegas

We fly off of a 516' x 60' runway. It's asphalt with a grass strip next to it, albeit a little rough. Three taxiways that extend to pit area from the runway.
