How Far do you drive to your field.
As we all know, flying sites are becomming harder to come by.
We would like to know just how far you are willing to driive or have to drive to fly.

I belong to 3 clubs:
BARKS, Burlington, NC 38 miles each way (I'm a life Member there)
Flying Tigers, Jordan Lake, NC 18 miles each way and they have a really big lake for float flying, but its only open on weekends
SWAMPS Duncan, NC 28 miles each way and I refer to it as "Area 51"

TORKS, oklahoma City

If you look at the field info picture my home is on the lake shoreline in the upper left of the picture.
Straight line, less than a mile, driving distance 1-1/8 miles.

Our club has one official field which is about 11 miles one way and the unofficial field which is better for flying the bigger glow/gas planes is about 17 miles one way. The official field has been under the gun for a few years due to one neighbor's complaints but that seems to have settled down a little this year. It's not the greatest layout and has a somewhat restricted over fly area but it's location is easily the closest to the city of all the local clubs for flying glow.

It's only about 12 miles. But it takes 45 mins in normal traffic, and 1 1/2 hours when conditions worsen, traffic jam or rain. Half freeway and highway, 1 toll plaza, 13 traffic lights, 20 speed bumps. And that's the short cut!
I rarely go there now! Can't take it anymore.
Cheers from the Barfly.

RE: How Far do you drive to your field.
Hello; My favorite field is 42 km. away from my house, over a mountain pass, two lights, light traffic, takes about a half an hour to get there. My favorite float flying site is 35 km. away, countless lights and heavy city traffic, never get there in less then 45 minutes.
If I have to test fly a plane I can just go down the road to a long private driveway and use that. Only 1 and a half mile away, or two km.

33 miles each way.. and if you decide to embark after noon during "tourist season", that 33 miles turns into 132 miles as the "crow drives"![:@]
