Just for curiousity, why would you rather use eBay, if this gets enough users.

Many reasons,
Feedback ratings, traffic, easy listings, software that keeps track of multiple auctions, daily updates, speed of system....need I say more? Not that your system looks bad but it will not be able to compete with the traffic ebay has, more traffic=higher sale prices.

My Feedback
Default RC Auction.Net

Please don’t think that I’m being argumentative, I respect your opinion.
However I feel compelled to clarify some incorrect points that you have made so that readers are not misled. First off, we do employ a full feedback system very similar to eBay. But there is one glaring difference. We WILL remove negative feedback that is improperly placed.
Users can contact us and discuss there problems, and get an immediate resolution. Users can even call us on a real telephone, and talk to a real person.

The site is completely monitored at all times. Our longest response time to an email has been under 10 minutes. Try that with ebay. Try to get a phone # to ebay.

We have also retained legal services, to help with any bad transactions, at our expense. Bad guys will be banned, and negative feedback to the good guy is immediatly remove. We not only track by email address, but track the ip address of a user.

As far as easy listings, perhaps you should try it before you decide. We have been flooded with emails praising its ease of use. A first time user can usually post 3 ads on our site in the time it take to put one on eBay. Again one big difference, we do not charge for the add or the pictures. It’s FREE.

I’m not sure what you mean by “software that keeps track of multiple auctions.”
A user can have and track an unlimited number of auctions.

On the point of system speed, we will always be faster. We have built our system to be twice as powerful as it would need to be if every RC’er were using it. We don’t have the unexpected, and peak loads that are imposed on eBay.

Lastly, lets look at traffic. What good is it to have 20 million users searching for a “Nintendo game boy” or a “Sony TV” or a “Dell computer” when all you want to do is buy or sell is your Futaba radio. You can rest assured that anybody looking on RCAuction.Net is looking for something In the RC hobby. We don’t want or ever will have as many users as eBay. Our user base will grow to the point that you will have more users looking for your RC item than you will on eBay.

Sorry to be so long winded.

Thank You

Why didn't you clarify your relationship to the site on your first post? Are you brc007 also?

I am very sorry if my post misled you in any way.
It certainly was not, and is not my intent.
I am only trying to share a great service with the Rc community.
In addition, there is no relationship between myself and brc007, other than the fact that he became a registered user of the site.

OK I looked at it and I like it. I hope it does well. I look at ebay for model stuff twice a year wether I need to or not. I'm good for screwing around with it for about a half hour then give up in frustration. Again good luck.

Good luck w/the new site...I personally know how hard it is to start and maintain a site so you have my best wishes with the new venture. Getting that pump primed is the hardest part. I contemplated added auctions here awhile ago but I have too much on the plate now as it is...plus ebay is a tough competitor regardless of some of the good points made here regarding them.

As far as having enough power for every RC'er...unless you have 3 or 4 high end sun sparc's (100 grand plus) running with maxed out ram and replicated databases you are sure to need more horsepower. We have some highly tweaked and optimized systems and with 5000 members and maybe the same or double in lurkers but an available market of 150,000 to 300,000 (planes, cars, heli's) RC people online or more you'll need more juice if you get all of them. You can always add as needed of course. Just figured I'd let you know if you aren't the the tech guy and are relying on what your tech told you. Then again if you invested the 100 G's plus for the multiple high end servers you might in fact be ready.

With that said any service to help add value to the RC community is a cool one. If the value proposition is good people will come.

My Feedback
Default New RC Auction Site

For fraser1818:

As marc astutely pointed out ... starting a new
web site ... especially one as complex as an
auction site, is not an easy or rapid thing to do

And your site certainly has its share of birthing
pains.

I un-successflyy tried to post a listing and ran
into the following "glitches" or oversights"

a) Although the listing fees are touted a "free",
there is no discussion of what the selling fees
will be .... hmmm

b) There are no "Help" files to assist new buyers
or sellers with the processes that will be used
for auctions ....

c) Despite your your tout that all emails are
answered with-in 10 minutes .... no where on
the site can you find an email address to
send those questions to.

d) Even tho I have uploaded over 100 pictures in
the last month from my hard drive to listings
on eBay, my attempts to do so on your site
failed: every attempt ended in an error message
stating that the "advancedinc.net" file or
directory was non-existant.

I tried sending an email to "rcauction.com",
a personal email to you here on RCUniverse,
and finally reported a "fraud" on your web
site ... and marked it as not really doing
so, just that this venue was the only way
I could figure to get some help/attention.

So far ... no replies from any of these
queries ... 10 minutes ... right !!

I am sure you will get these glitches
ironed out .... but right now, there
appear to be valid reasons why there
are only three (3) listings on the site.

My Feedback
Default RC-auction Start-up

In all fairness with regard to my last post on
the new rcauction.net site:

Shortly afer making the post - and NOT as a result
of the post ... but from my earlier queries - I
received a personal telephone call from the people
setting up and running the site.

The telecon was very upbeat, with the rc-auction
folks indicating that the points I made were either
already addressed, or would be shortly.

They seemed genuinely interested in making the
site a superior auction venue for R/C model
items. This would be a welcome addition to this
aspect of the R/C hobby.

My personal opinion is that by giving them a
little slack to get things together, this could be
a site that will become a favorite "bookmark"
on every R/Cer's web browser.

One thing will lose you customers. The descriptions are very poor or skimpy. Only a couple of the gas planes have pictures. If you want people to pay 2 or 3 hundred dollars for a plane across the other side of the country you have to work on your sellers to post pics.
