RE: A380 landing at LAX
I watched it streaming from ABC7.com. Quite impressive!! Although the landing was not pretty. An ugly flair and then the plane got a little sideways after touchdown.
What a monster!!

It'll be interesting to see if they can get back the sales they've lost because of how far behind delivery schedule they are. Seems like every week some airline or other is announcing cancellation of orders for the A-380 and going back to Boeing.

Hi Eveyone;
I fly a lot, within the USmostly, & mostly on 737s and small Airbus craft; I don't want to water down anyones' parade, but how are they going to ingress/egress up to 500+ passengers within a day or 2. It takes damn near 1/2 an hour to empty or fill the small ships. & I really doubt if they are going to go to several exit ramps, & then can you imagine 500+ people getting off at the gate and another 500 waiting to get on; and then the wonderfulness of baggage claim; and then I almost forgot......security checkin, with all those super friendly, formerly unemplyed security people, cheerfully helping protect ourselves from ourselves thro security......the thought of same makes me quiver, and feel real queasy in the bowel area. They can make these airplanes as big as they want, but until they can adequately handle the planing/deplaning/security/baggage screwups, I say thanx but no thanx, I will hopefully stay wid da little 737s.
Just my 2 cents worth, best regards from Phoenix; [& flying back to Florida tomorrow-a'nudder day shot!],
Joe Nagy.

Like many businesses, Airbus is run by accountants who only look at bottom line profits. A higher density airliner operates at a lower cost per passenger mile, therefore apparently higher profitablility. Passenger convenience and handling the ingress/egress and other parts of the infrastructure are obviously somebody else's problems, and not part of Airbus's or the A380 operators' concern.

Yep! I remember being delayed almost 2 hours at Charlotte NC seeing my plane (F27) waiting for an open gate because of the passenger surge in the terminal. None of the big ones, just the regionals and comuter stuff. The plane was actually early, but they were having problems getting planes in front of it unloaded and loaded. Bigger isn't always better.

Wow, Lots of rudder movement???
it actually landed in one piece???
...its a miracle...somebody call Ripley's....Airbus finally managed to build one where the rudder doesnt come flying off when the pilot actually uses it.
You'll never get me on one of those Frenchy deathtraps.

Then there is also the crush of passengers at Customs to deal with. I think that plane would be better suited as a cargo ship. I'm looking forward to the Boeing 787

RE: A380 landing at LAX
I heard on the radio, on the way to work this morning, that they are doing flight demos at Dulles today. It's nice and cloudy at the moment, but if anyone is in the area and wants to see it fly, today may be the day.

Will it be as impressive as that big 6 engined Antonov freighter the Russians have? I saw that one flying over Port Columbus airport from I-71 once. Huge, and seemed to be manuvering like a fighter.
Still remember something I heard on Paul Harvey once. Report from a survey done by the Airline Pilots association. What is the safest airliner to fly from the pilot's POV. #1 by a huge margin was anything B, such as B-727, B-737, B-747. Apparently they ranked Airbus down the list.

RE: A380 landing at LAX
I don't like the idea of having to evac such a large ship. I also don't particularly like the idea of flying on a new unproven airplane. I prefer to allow other people the excitement of shakedown.
It's probably appropriate for some long haul trips and we expect that to be the case at LAX. Long hauls to the orient, down under and new zealand which can be 16-18 hour flights.
Still the news reports I heard was that coach was still "coach" and that it really wasn't any more or less uncomfortable.
I hate airlines.

It's designed for long distance flight. Across oceans and stuff like that.
It's not your average puddle jumper 737 to get from Denver to Vegas.
I think it's cool as all get out. Bigger always flies better.
