I spent four years in the Air Force, from 1995-1999. I was a weather observer, stationed at Fort Knox. All in all, I think I spent only about 6 months on Air Force bases. The rest of the time I got to play with the Army, which wasn't all bad. They didn't know what to do with the dozen or so USAF guys on post, so they stayed out of our hair. The pilots were a great group to work with, along with the rest of the airfield personel.

The airfield was usually idle on weekends, and the airfield manager game me permission to fly my models out there using the runways if I wanted. It seemed like too much of a hassle at the time, so I never took him up on it. In retrospect it sure would have been fun to play around on those 5,200 foot runways.

Gentlemen, I'd like to encourage you to relate some RC annecdotes from your military days. Could you fly on base? Where'd you do your building? A good friend of mine who was also stationed at Ft. Knox did his building in his barracks room. Things were pretty cluttered in there for a couple weeks while he built an LT-40!

I'm genuinely interested in hearing about other people's service, but for this thread to continue we've got to incorporate some RC content.

MikeL,
I didn't get into RC until after I was out of the service. But I live in Lawton, OK, which is right next door to Ft. Sill (my last duty station). The field where we fly is located on base. Our club has a very good relationship with Ft. Sill. They do everything thing they can do help us out.
