3-d ???
3 D is for people who don't know that planes are for flying , not floppin' around like a fish out of water, or trying to hang on the prop like it is a helio.. Hence, 3D, Dork, Damage, Destroy..

As was explained to me, 3D is maneuvers performed below the stall speed of an aircraft, relying on the prop thrust and pilot skill to retain control. I used to knock it...until I tried it...now I love it...total riot!!!

3D Explained
The best explanation of the 3d maneuvers is at the Horizon Hobby site written by TOC competitor Mike McConville. Here's some links:

Sorry Robby...darn...I was so sick of planes floppin around the sky...and then totally tired of all the hype on every other page of every mag...well...then...I just had to see what the Pizza box thing was all about...I'll be darned if I didn't have the most fun I've ever had in the hobby outside of combat...so...now I'm designing the simplest cheapest funfly planes I can come up with and just having too darn much fun flying them......floppin all over the place!
So..what the heck, why not just go for everything guys love to hate in one plane!!!...Ha! Here's one for Jim...first of all it's a Spad, Sassy and I built it Sunday afternoon in about 5 hours (designed and scratch built). All of about $6 invested in the airframe...and it's a profile

Hey Dean (post # 11)
How does that Gee Wiz Profile fly? I like It !
How does that Gee Wiz Profile fly? I like It !
It hasen't flown yet...built it Last Sunday, and by the time it was completed, there wasn't enough day left to get to the field. Hope to fly it this weekend! It's based on an aready very successfull concept (The Spad QHOR)...and the latest craze of bolting a profile fuselage to them. Oh yeah...did I mention the plane doesn't require any glue or paint, and since everything is plastic or metal, no fuel proofing required
There's more on the basic airframe here:

As for "flopping" around the sky...I'm still pretty sucky at it, but I think that's why it's so fun...after 25 years of "conventional" flying, suddenly I've got something new that's totally challenging, and the control co-ordination requirements are pretty intense. After several hours of harriers and hover practice last weekend...I flew one of my Sport planes...and it was like an unchallenge.

Thanks for all the replys. Sounds like the flying that we've always done that we did not know exactly how we did it, or what it was called but thought was cool as heck.
