I've seen the field up there, But I have never seen anyone
fly there? Seems to always be windy there as well.

Yeh, I should have thought about the Windmills!
Anyways I fly on the east side on Bakersfield, out towards
the Arvin area. Its a rock dust base field with pits/canopy
they call it Rebel Field. Not a bad place. Actually the guys
from Tehachapi come down here to fly
Big plus is no trees, you just have to miss the fence at the
east end of the runway on finals though

Yup that's why all the windmills all right. Use to live in California city when I was on the Kern county Sheriff's dept and my Son was born in Tehachapi.

Default KC Sheriff?

Art,

When were you a deputy sheriff? Do you know Gary Stephens?
He flies in Bakersfield with my dad. He was a deputy for 20+ years, retired about 8 years ago. He was stationed at a few different places in K.C.

Now that name do ring a bell!!! I was with them in the early 70's, left in 74 to come up here to get on the State patrol. Boron HS??? EWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!! I worked at the Borax plant for awhile also, not a fun place for sure!!! worked in plant #26. It is a small world, the Son was born in May of '71 BTW and tried real hard to get on at the prison, and almost got on the Tehachapi PD! Love the apples that they grow there, especially the yellows!!!!

Default small world

Wow it is a small world.
the reason I asked about this place is me and the better half are thinking of getting a place in BVS...I fly at El Mirage Dry Lake and was looking at maps and found that Bakersfield is only about 50 miles away......sure beats the 80 miles (one way) I drive now from the Valley to the Lake now!

Hey Tony, are you going to the camp out this weekend at El Mirage? I posted in the Fun-Fly & Events thread. I have had a great response and we are looking for more people?
Thanks Tim

LOL yer-sir-ree 2 story electrohaulers with tires as big as a garage. Those were the days, In fact the damm now days was closed for almost 3 years they opened it up last year after a 1.5 million dollar renovation. They raised the spillway 20 feet higher, and put ina boat ramp and campgrounds. It is very nice up there now and they even stock the lake every other month.
