I've got a NASCAR star down in the boat forums. I won't out him but he made the Race For The Chase this past season.

I was asked to make this post:
If you want to talk celebrities in R/C you need to start with Reginald Denny. He was a big time actor in Hollywood who was into modeling. He opened a hobby shop in LA, was a Defense Contractor making the first R/C target drones for the Army, etc. As an aside, Marilyn Monroe worked in his factory and was discovered there when the Army wanted Denny to shoot a promotional film in the plant. There are pictures of him flying R/C with Mickey Rooney, Wallace Beery and other actors of the time.

I have plans for the Dennyplane and the Dennyplane Jr. They are on my extensive to do list. Both are great looking designs.
Regional Denny also had the Dennymite line of engines.

Here's a flashback... Do you recall an actor named Reginald Denny? He goes back to the 40's and 50's. Along with being an actor, he ran a hobby shop in Beverly Hills (which is no longer there, I understand).
He also developed and manufactured radio controlled target practice drones for the Army and Navy during WWII using tube (i.e., "hollow state") technology. One of the girls on the Production line later became Marilyn Monroe.
I remember there being a chap named Howard Johnson who used to fly and be in all the magazines in the 60's and 70's, but I don't know if he was part of the Howard Johnson chain of restaurants.

Here's a pic of former Formula 1 driver Ayrton Senna flying a pattern plane. I found this in another thread. The trend continues huh?

Another former Formula 1 and Formula Indy driver (and champion) who enjoyed R/C flying is Emerson Fittipaldi and his brother Wilson Fittipaldi Jr., also a race driver.

[>:] Now I want a Dennyplane...I bet there's not many of those hanging around anywhere, much less flying!

It is a VERY cool airplane. I have also seen photos of a Dennyplane on floats-even cooler!
I have a kit awaiting my having time to build it.
Klarich has plans and short kits for both the Dennyplane and the Dennyplane Jr. Virtually identical exceot structure-the Jr does not require the external wing struts..

If there are any nascar (sprint cup) drivers out there flying, that happen to be reading this. You are my hero! (I'll let you crash one of my planes for a ride in your car!)

Yes, Tony has owned Custom Works for a few years now. If you seen the ads a RCCA you've probably seen him in them. He is also into R/C boats owning an Aeromarine Cat.
Drag racer Antron Brown is also heavy into boats and does race them when his schedule allows him to.

RE: Celebrities into R/C?
Amazing how many times this topic has surfaced. I have my contributions memorized so that I can type them on automatic.
Eddie "Rochester" Anderson, Jack Bennies driver for so many decades, and a lead actor in a number of movies and stage plays. Appeared in a number of adds in AirTrails. One 2 or 3 page add even showed him standing in some university wind tunnel holding a control line model that he was apparently financing. Apparently he also flew.
John Glenn, Neil Armstrong, Alan Shepard, and a couple other astronauts were not only flyers but even had their pictures during NATS competitons show up in some of the model press. In fact, I seem to remember the caption under one of the photos with something about "We expect to hear big things about this young man!" It was either Glenn or Armstrong.
I remember an interview on Wide World of Sports with I think Willie Mays about 1975. Through most of the interview, he was throwing a slope soarer off a cliff, then bringing it around behind hiim for a one-handed catch and toss for another go-around.
Several Cleveland Ohio area celebs were also into flying, including RC. One from back in the 50s and 60s was known as Big Wilson, also in the 70s and early 80s, Gary "Dee Dee" Williams, kind of an early "Shock Jock" who after a number of years was replaced fo maybe a year by Don Imus.
Our club tried to invite Williams to attend one of our mall shows. He declined. He wanted to, but he was affraid that the kind of audience he attracted would be detrimentl to what we were trying to accomplish

Read this ancient thread along with the others with interest and figured I`d add a couple that I didn`t see.
Geddy Lee of Rush talked about Alex Lifeson out flying his r/c plane while he and Neal Pert were working on a song.
Also I read an article about Kerry Livgren from the band Kansas that mentioned that he flew r/c planes. The article was written not long after he had suffered a stroke. There was an address posted for well wishing fans. I wrote a letter but got it back a long time after stamped return to sender.
