How about gas welding rod?... They should be available locally and may come if varying diameters, blends/alloys, and stiffnesses. You might also go to the local kite shop and get some carbon fiber rods...

Carbon fiber or aluminum rods from your local Academy, Oshmans, or archery store.

A wooden dowel with a 2X56 piece of threaded rod epoxied into each end works well. You can also insert a 1/16 in diameter wire with a Z-bend on one end for simplicity.

Give us an idea of what you're trying to do. I don't know of any of these ideas or a combination of them that wouldn't work for a 30" pushrod. Other than the bike spokes, they can all be found in this length.

Bicycle spokes lashed & epoxied to the stems of plastic flags as used by Chem-Lawn, the Gas Company or invisible dog fencing. Use hollow plastic coffee stirrers CA'd to the fuselage for the runs to the outside. Sleeve 1/8" pieces of Bic pen refills over the spokes to keep them from vibrating inside the coffee stirrer sleeves (a drop of CA holds the pen refill pieces). Make sure they stay withing the tubes at max and min throws so they don't grab and lock the rod.

What's $10 compared to the price of a new plane, receiver and servos?
