Default Cyano -- sticky situation...

Hi,

I don't think this has been answered anywhere before, or at least a search hasn't revealed anything apparent. However, usual apologies apply if this isn't the case. Anyway...

I've just bought myself a nice, new ARC Ready 2. It's not my first plane by any means, but I felt that it would be nice to have a trainer again to fly on those days when I don't /want/ a challenge. However, I've messed up! I've put the middle former/bulkhead in the wrong place and now I can't get it out again because of the (rather liberal) cyano around the edge. Does anyone have any advice on how to remove the cyano? I've tried nail polish remover, but that doesn't seem to be budging it. I'm also quite concerned about warping/dissolving the fuselage of the Ready 2, with it being plastic and all.

Any advice gratefully received.

Carl

I would guess some 'DeBonder' of sorts would work - but I don't know what effect soaking the former in debonder would do to the fuse - my guess is nothing, but maybe a test spot could be tried?

Aha, cheers. I wasn't aware of the existance of debonder, but now I am I'll see about getting some from the LHS on Tuesday (they're closed on Sunday and Monday's a public holiday, so they'll be closed then too).

Cheers,

Carl

Default well.....

Debonder comes in itsy bitsy small bottles....and it works really slowly, in my opinion...(a good thing, but maybe not what you were looking for...)

And watch out what it comes in contact with...I'm not sure I understand what types of materials you are working with...Debonder probably is a solvent for more than just CA.

Good luck!

Nail polish remover (acetone) will also loosen cyano glues, a lot cheaper than debonder.

You could just cut the former out of your plane and then make a new one...

If it's plastic, something else you can try is this:

CA is very hard. Prying it often results in breakage. BUT, a sharp blow can often loosen it without harming the surrounding material.

I would try placing a large, blunt tipped screwdriver against the bulkhead right at the glue joint, and giving it a rap with a SMALL hammer.
