Default Astro Turf as a runway?

Hello All,
I was just wondering if anyone has ever laid down Astro Turf as a model airplane runway. As a club field, has anyone used this material, and if so, how did it work out?

Our club is considering this material for a new runway surface and I''m just trying to get information from anyone who has done/seen tt. If you have any experience with this stuff (for flying off of), please let me know how it is.

Thanks!
Oly

I heard one of the clubs in the California Wine Country has used it.
It was given to them when a local football field was recovered.
Hopefully someone will respond.

I was thinking about flying on my school''s astro turf football field when I was running on the track around it. I think astro turf will make a good runway for fast planes because it will help slow them down.

My concern would be its ability to stop rips and last. I have seen it on the docks a lot and it last about 2 years to 3 tops and when it rips, the wind just takes it all the way to the end.

I think a better option for you might be the Propex material. I know it''s been discussed on here somewhere before but I can''t find it at the moment. This stuff works well from everything I have heard and is easy to patch when someone has a less than perfect landing. I would think the turf would be rather hard to get patched when the inevitable cuts happen. The Propex is the material our club was considering, as the solution to the arguments of how long the grass should be cut. Hasn''t happened yet so I can''t give you any personal experience.

Ok, found it. http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/fb.a...508&key=propex or just do a search with the word propex and you''ll get several threads.
