Default Your Ride/Transporter to/from Field Pictures!

Mr "Flyboy Dave" just posted some pictures of his new ride in another Forum and I would like to see how everyone transports their planes back and forth from the field. Here's my RC Plane Transporter. The 4WD Rusty, Dirty, Shag Carpet Bongo.

I have five airplanes in my two door Cavalier on this trip to the field. A Top Cap, magic, Diamond dust, PBF and a foam 1/2a. Also my launch pad for the DD. I could get more in if I took the wings off of the Magic. I back right up to the pits so I have my flight box built across the back of the car. My old flight box is behind the passenger seat for emergency's.

When my minivan got too small I got a full size van. What a pain in the butt to remove seats and all. Also, I could only get one Giant scale in it. SO, my buddy built a trailer for me. Holds up to four Giant and several smaller ones - here it is as it sits today with one Giant, two four star 60, a Vertical RC Katana, and one pizza box flyer.

Very neat stomper! This is a very interesting thread....I can see the potential for new ideas in transporting planes.......I'll post some pics this week when I load up the ride to go fly......one day a guy showed up at the field with a 2 door pontiac Sunfire......he pulled out 4, 40 sized glow planes and a park flyer.......I had to go look to see if the car actually had seats!!

I like what you've come up with! My plane-hauler is a '92 Montero - I need to add some sort of inside rack or I'll end up carrying planes on the roof.

Are the front and back posts tied to each other, or are they just anchored to the floor and headliner? I can't quite tell in the picture.

Default pick up trucks

Does anyone have any pics of a good way to secure planes in pick ups. Right now they just ride in the back since I only live 2 miles from the field. But we are changing field and will have to drive further to get there.

Hey Grun-Herz-JG54,

Bring the element back out to the field anytime. You don't have to wait till another fly in

The front and the rear racks are not hooked together. Each rack is anchored to the ceiling and the floor and therefore does not swing while driving. My Explorer has 4 "hard points", hanger hooks, that are built into the ceiling. They are split and I push a cloths line hook that is in the top of the PVC tube up into that split. This keeps them from moving fore and aft. The PVC tube is just tall enough to be a friction fit between the ceiling and the floor. I use a zip tie loop over the hanger hook like a cross bar that the clothes line hook fits over.

I need to shorten the clothes line hook and make more space between the top and bottom cross pieces. A few more inches and I'll be able to carry up tp 1.20 sized models. I got some "road rash" on one of my plane's wheel pants when I didn't use the bottom cross bar and it rubbed against my transmitter case...

I'll post less cluttered and clearer pictures in a day or two...

Jarrod,
YOu drive a truck, am i right.
What i did in the begining was take a sheet of plywood and put downrods in one end and have the ply wood extend all the way down the plane so it stuck out alittle farther than the nose wheel, than straped the plane down to it.
I too live a few miles from the field, but the new field isnt but right down my road from me, so all ill have to do is throw a plane on my 4-wheeler and go ,lol.
Are you going flying this weekend? im going to try, but saturday might be taken my Jessica, lol.

My hauler is a 4 X 8 metal trailor that is sitting in the AG shop at school, we are putting the new tunge on it tommarow.

We do not have too far to go to our field, so this is our hauler.

Sorry, the picture did not load, I will try again.
