With the rising cost of gasoline, it won't be long you will hear it said: "I'm changing over to Nitro fuel - it's cheaper"

I guess that nitro fuel being mostly methanol which is an alcohol, and e85 being mostly ethanol which is also an alcohol, this is already in progress.

Obviously you haven't heard of the nitro fuel shortage.

Well I see where Nitro is $48.00+ per gallon. Want to drag for 1000 feet

And if you have money problems stay out of this Hobby

ORIGINAL: mscic-RCU

My LHS told me 10% is going to be priced at 16 bucks a gallon at his shop.
That's the regular price at my LHS. He did say that he bought a couple of pallets just before the "increase", and that he would be able to hold his prices for a while.

You know, it is simply amazing how we accept, and become accustomed to, unpleasant realities. I used to vigorously "shop" for the best local fuel prices. The way to do it, of course, is get a bunch of guys together and order a pallet or two via motor freight. That has never worked in my crew; dunno whether its because the majority are too damned cheap to make a big investment, or they don't have the storage space for 20 gallons at a time, whatever; every time I've tried to put together a big fuel order, it has fallen through on our end. So I would buy case lots from whichever of the three area hobby shops had the best price.

That was back when I had a state vehicle and gasoline prices (and time) were simply not an issue.

Now that I'm back flying some glow again (and am retired), I realized the other day that I'm down to my last case of glow fuel. I have to go into town today, so I'll pick up a case or two at the LHS. No shopping, no looking around, just go get the stuff. The few dollars a gallon I MAY save by shopping will be more than eaten up by the cost of the gasoline to go get it (Metairie or Hammond; each over 50 miles away) or the time spent looking, etc.

OTOH, I still refuse to pay that $65 "ransom" to get a PW kit to me....

I picked up two cases at $18 a gallon; he knocked a dollar per gallon off for the quantity purchase. I last bought glow fuel more than two years ago; closer to three, actually; and paid $15.50 per gallon. So I'm happy

He also had to dig deep into his back room to find me two cases of Cool Power 15%. Seems as if all Morgan has been sending him lately is 18% nitro with "low viscosity" oil; at an extra couple of dollars per gallon... my guy said he cannot even order "straight" 15% any more.

Dunno if that is true or not. I hope not; I've been using Cool Power 15% for over 16 years in everything. It is simply a good, all-around glow fuel. Anyway, I'm good to go for a while, now.

#1 grandson and I put four flights on his Kougar (OS 40SF) yesterday afternoon, and barely put a dent in the level of my gallon glow fuel jug. These little airplanes have their good points...
