Default Hobby Warehouse (Sky Hobbies) - Re-opened

If you haven't heard one of our best hobby shops in the Minneapolis, St Paul area is closed.
I guess they are opening Monday, and giving a 10% discount to start their inventory reduction.
Have any of you heard the reason why?

Mike,
Is this the one we stopped at last year when I was up there??? If so, it would be a shame because it was a very nice hobby shop

That's too bad.

Jeremy and Tom are great guys that know their r/c equipment. The shop was competitively priced to meet the internet sites. The swap meets were a nice addition also. I wonder what happened - there were always people in there shopping when I stopped in (which was way too often according to my wife).

Scott.

I had heard today that there will be a 10% markdown this week, and 20% next week to move some inventory.

Not sure what will happen after that, it is a shame. The best hobby store in the State, and probably one of the better ones in the Country.

Anyone have a phone number for them? There are some items they might have that I've been looking for. Namely a monokote rack and a large balsa wood display.

So I went to the store today after work to start the stocking up process. There were some very interesting things going on at the store which I must agree with everyone else is one of the best shops in the country.

First off the store had about 8 cars parked out front and eight guys standing around the front of the shop. All the lights were off and the doors were locked. As I walked up to the front door I could hear the phone ringing off the hook from outside. Posted on the front door was a legal notice baring Hobby Warhouse and all associated parties from operating the business of Sky Hobbies. I started talking with all the guys outside the shop and we all think there must be some sort of struggle between the owners.

I sure hope they open again soon. There were many people willing to spend a lot of money today and I think we all felt burnt that they were not open.

The whole thing is unfortunate.
A public forum like this isn't the place to bring up the personal conflicts between the owners, so we may never know.

All is not what it seems.

Gents give "them" some time to sort through their issues!

There have always been rumors about some of the business practices that supposedly went on. I don't lend those much credence, though. All I know is that it has been very nice to have a very well-run hobby shop just a couple of miles from home. Business never seemed slow there, either. I don't think I've ever gotten out of there without spending at least $40, even if I just went in for a prop!

well my father talked to the original owner (the father of the current owner) and he said that he gave HALF of the business to his son and he wanted the whole thing. his son sued him and the father said ok then we will shut the doors and lock them. the father is afraid that they might not settle all of this and the store might remained closed forever.

I bet he gave the remaining half to his 2nd wife (actually not the mother of the f*cked up son).

Well this just sucks. I've been busy the past few weeks and finally got time and was going to grab some props. Gave the store a call to find out how late they were open and no one was answering the phones....I figured that was not a good sign. Did an internet search and found this thread which confirmed my fears.

Hopefully Jermy will get the shop open again soon!

so the original owner gave half of his business to his son.
well now his son wants the other half from his father and his father wont give it or sell it to him so the son is suing.
sorry for the confusion.

I just went by and saw the "Reopening July 21 for Going Out of Business Sale" signs, but there was another sign on the door dated 7/21/08, a restraining order barring the owners from selling or controlling inventory or anything else.

Paul

Edit: I read the top post first and missed the explanations later in the thread. I now see what the controversy is. Thanks.

I wish them the best , never witnessed anything but good things between the family when I was in there . Great shop, great servace, great prices .
Lets hope they dont sell and it settles .A weird thing happended at xmas , they were closed from about the 12/5 thru January to change ownerships and get out of the car business why Christamas ?? when 4 quater sales are critical to anyone but they closed .Then they reopened but the cars were still in the shop with a wall of parts and they shop had two names the original and the new one SKyhobbies .
Its by far the best shop in the country and major loss to the hobby if they close

Should we set a date and have a Hobby Warehouse / Sky Hobbies fall swap meet there anyway?
I propose Sunday, Sept 21st, 2008 @ 8 AM. The 3rd Sundays in May and September seem to
have been the norm in the past. Won't be quite the same if the store is still closed though.
