As of right now this little #. Actually it has been just getting back into the hobby. 1998 was my last full season of flying. Since then it has been maybe one or two times a year. So far this year I managed to crash 2 with a good 2 month of flying already. (6 gallons of fuel through a 40 la and a 61 fsr)

Designing my own planes and watching them fly...that's cool...but seeing other people think the designs are cool, and build them to, is even cooler.
My bigest acomplishment however is learning computers somewhat. I was a hold out as long as I could...but the day model airplanes and computers intersected on a collision course...it was time to get with the "program"

What are everyones proudest accomplishments?
I have been in modeling since 1937 so that gives me lots of time to do good things. My proudest accomplishment, however, didn't happen until 1975 when I designed the 1/4 scale Bristol Scout. Then a member of the STARS club in Olean, NY (still a member today with 62 years consecutive membership) a group of six guys built a squadron of them. We had a dickens of a time coming up with an engine to power them, when we heard that Ron Schettler in Edmunton, Canada was powering a model with a Quadra chainsaw engine. A phone call - and I owned the first Quadra in the USA. It was a dream come true, and soon thereafter, all the six Bristols were powered by Quadras. They flew just great. Remember now, we had to hand carve our propellers and make our big wheels out of wood. Also the cowls were turned on a wood lathe, as this was in the days before fiberglass. This was a new frontier.
The Bristol Scout squadron were the first gasoline powered 1/4 scale models shown and flown anywhere in the US, and it was the beginning of "Giant Scale" as we know it today. These six Bristol Scout models and the Quadra 35 engine changed the hobby almost overnight. Everywhere we flew the models - the spectators and fellow modelers looked on in awe. They were the "model T's" of giant scale - but just look at where we are today. (In July 2002, we flew five of the original models at the same time to open the STARS airshow - 25th scale anniversary. Two of the original pilots have passed on, but the five models, now 25 years old, were flown by younger members. That right there is quite an accomplishment.)
For 4/5 years the STARS club got much recognition. I became the first Quadra dealer in the US, and I sold lots of them. I tried to attached a photo of the Bristols lined up at Rhinebeck, NY as they graced the cover of Model Airplane News in the June, 1978 issue, but it was too large. So will try to attach a photo of my original Scout built in 1975. We hope that this proud moment and great accomplishment will long be remembered.

After 36 years of smoking I quit in 1991. I still get excited every time I see the price of cigarettes. It more than pays for the expenses of this hobby in addition to the more obvious health benefits.

wouldn't be going solo, coz that just kinda happened........
it would beeeee, flying my own design for the first time..
learning to prophang...
and saving various planes from dying after bits fell off or snapped midflight when they really should have died.

I have built a few kits over the last 2 years. However there has always been one or 2 imperfections that took the thrill out of the project. Either a bad cover job or a stab thats not paralell etc. I just finished a GP Ultimate Biplane. After completing it I stood back looked at it and said. PERFECT!!
That is my proudest accomplishment thus far. Practice makes perfect.

I never get tired of telling this one.
2nd flight at the Scale World Championships last year;
1st flight scored zero... 2 botched takeoffs (noseover in 90 degree crosswind on pavement). I managed to get into the air but was told to land... only 2 attempts permitted.
2nd flight, HOT, HUMID, watching the telltales and windsock disagree about wind direction, feeling so nervous/tense I'm beginning to feel ill and I'm guaging the distance to the portable. I taxi out and....
... I hear "THAT'S MY DADDY!!!" proudly shouted from the stands by my 3 year old (and echoed by my 2 year old). From that moment on I wasn't flying for the judges or cameras or spectators... I was flying for my girls.... my best of the contest, I even managed a mains landing without nose-over in a severe swirling crosswind on pavement (something I've struggled with on this plane under the best of conditions).
The flight didn't score very well but it just didn't matter anymore. I felt like I'd won after that flight and I strutted off the field with a smile the width of the runway.

Hey vinnie, I quit smoking almost 8 years ago in 96 at the age of 36. Two months shy of 8 years now and it was a birthday gift to myself. Great accomplishment.

Instructing at our clubs open house, several Boy Scout camps and a church camp every summer. Gotta give something back, since so much was given to me when I started.
Oh, hearing nice plane or that was a sweet landing never hurts...

My best moment was taking a kid who was very underpriveledged to the field and showing him RC Flying. Letting him fly a bit and all... That was clearly the most fun he had in a very long time. At the end of the day I asked him, well how would you like to take the plane home? He was stunned, and now is a very competent pilot. His focus changed that day. His school grades got much better, and he now wants to go into the air force to fly unmanned planes. Giving an old Ugly Stick away fully ready to fly.
It made me feel like his hero. You just cant buy that kinda stuff.
