Since all you guys care about is speed and going as fast as you can full throttle all the time, here is a question for you. Which one is faster? Both have flown at the Basin. The one on the right is turbine powered.

Yep the one on the left. That was not intended But it is crazy fast. The old rude squadron would be left in the dust! Since I crafted it, it is only flown on "Rare" occations. Originaly built in 1983. I finished rebuilding the stock Top Flite Bearcat into Rare Bear as it looked at Reno 1985 in 2008. I may have posted this here before but it may be back a few hundred pages. By the way I like that the T-33 is slow!

It has clipped wings and blocked out flaps because that is how the real Rare Bear is. I have never seen another RC model of Rare Bear with clipped wings, no one else has the guts!

Is the Basin closed for the morning of 10 Oct 2014? The AMA has issued conflicting NOTAR's. One has is closed from 12:45PM today until 1 Pm ib 10/10, the subsequent one has it closed from 1PM until 2:45 PM on 10/10 with no mention of closure today. Anyone know what the actual closure is?

The gate is scheduled to be locked from 12:45 today through 2:45 tomorrow afternoon. If and when there is someone available from parks and rec's to open it up tomorrow afternoon.
The last time they opened it two hours late.

Hey guys I need some help from some old timers. I am going through and digitizing all my old home videos and I try to date everything that I convert. I am working on an old video of a day at the basin. I have pinned the year to either 1993 or 1994 (probably summer). This was a special day however as it was a fun fly event. Not just any fun fly as after the BBQ there was some kind of old west play put on by some actors on the grass. They were all dressed in 1800's attire and carried what appeared like real guns converted to stage use and firing blanks. At the finale of the play there was a massively loud gun fight with lots of smoke and noise. It was quite a show and I'm sure anybody who attended this fun fly will probably have some memory of it. Can anyone give me a year or ideally exact date of this event? I would imagine it is in an old issue of the VF newsletter if anybody has access to an archive from 1993 and 1994. Thanks!
Oops figured it out September 12, 1993.

Sad news. Willy Gardner past away this last Sunday. Willy was a fixture at the field and was responsible for much of the improvements, not only at the Sepulveda Basin, but also at the Glendale field. I will miss his warm handshakes.

Yes he was a nice guy. His work on the field will remain, like all those tables. The Valley Flyers RIP list is growing too fast.
Not too many old timers left. Did you folks know that loyal Valley Flyer, Bob Adams flew his very own F-86 Sabre Glow ducted fan in the early 1980's?

Thought I'd mention that there will be a 3D Printing Expo in Burbank at the Marriott Convention Center on Jan 29-31.
