RE: Sepulveda Basin
Hmmm, one possibility might be if the club assumes all maintainance duties at the field such as mowing and trash removal. This costs the city money and perhaps if the club steps up, the city might be receptive to the club running the flying field.
I say this as in the past, the city would put in improvements such as streets and sewers in a housing development. Or equestrian trails. The way it is today, the city requires the developer to install the streets, lighting and sewer systems. Add ons such as equestrian trails are the responsibility of Home Owner Associations (whose creation is mandated when the building permits are issued) which are responsible for the maintance and insuring of the trails.
This cost shifting has been very effective for the city, perhaps the same idea could be used so that the VF can take over and start imposing some rules.

What a great day to fly at the Basin.
I finally got the KMP B-25 in the air. Boy what a solid airplane.
I will get all the decals on it tonight and it will be ready for the scale event on sunday.

Hey Mike, that is more clever than you realize! If the basin became a closed, club operated field it would be mandatory for anyone to fly there to be an AMA member as well as a VF member.
That would drain the electric flyer area in a day. Cuz all those electric PF guys love to exclaim how they don't need no stinkin' AMA or no stinkin' club membership of any kind.
Brilliant. Bring it on!

They are also running a "simple scale competion. All I know is that the awards look really great.
So you can either compete or just come out and fly it like a fun fly.

Not just any scale plane, but any SIZE scale plane including ARF's with little wheels. The flyer says nothing about size. Most of our ARF's are scale anyway!
You do need AMA to enter the Scale Fun Fly Sunday.

I will be the first to say that the scale fun fly was a great event today! And even though I got beat and will never hear the end of it, The judging was great and we have many skilled scale pilots at the Basin! Hopfully they will be back next month for the Scale Masters Qualifier.
And an electric foamy T-28 beat out many much larger I.C. birds!!!! And Tied with me![X(]

I'll be the second to say the event was great and very fun. Hope to see everyone in August. I hope I can impress the judges again with the Patty Wagstaff. Btw everyone who competed is a winner.
