RE: Sepulveda Basin
Four Presidential Super Stallions flew over my house yesterday while i was home for lunch, flying low and slow (and incredibly loud) on their approach to LAX a mile north of my house. Man those things really shake the windows and dishes when they pass overhead!
They really are an awesome sight but i wish they'd approach from over the ocean instead of over our houses LOL. They woke me up during my power-nap and the noise scared the heck out of me Ithought it was a tornado or sumthin
That last time they were here was April 17th (discussed back on Page 320).

Yay!!! Finally got the maiden flight on the Bearcat! After replacing the carb on my G62, the motor ran extremely well without any fuss! Fortunately Ken Simmons was at the field and took these pictures. Thanks Ken they are extremely nice pics! Also thanks Leroy for your help at the field!
The Bearcat was built from a Jerry Bates Plans, 1/5.5 scale, 80" wing span, 24lbs, Gene Barton scale retracts and wheels, Zenoah G62 powered. Flew awesome and it landed like a ***** cat!

RE: Sepulveda Basin
I am editing that vid3eo from today. First person to name a song I'll use it. No Abba or Spice Girls please.
If I don't get a response I'll use Abba. I swear I will.

Flying field access,
Tried to get into the flying field today, Sept. 29 at about 11 am. Woodley was blocked going toward the field from both north and south. Since I have to drive 25 miles to get there, its a waste of a big chunk of the day if I don't get to fly. Is there any site that can tell me when they will be blocking access on Woodley?

RE: Sepulveda Basin
Who had the road blocked off? Was it a private security or the police? Did you speak to someone and tell them you wanted to go to the field?
During the Israel festival (which is the largest of the events held across the street) they block the road from thru traffic but are not allowed to deny access to the flying field.
If it was a film crew it wouldn't be a long closure although sometimes deals are made with the local clubs to close the field.

RE: Sepulveda Basin
bob, if you run into that again, first try contacting soemone at the closure and see if they will let you in.
If you try at Burbank and Woodley then go on down Burbank to Balboa, turn right and then go down to the park entrance, take the road all the way thru the park and it will drop you off at Woodley inside the barricade and turn right to the field.

RE: Sepulveda Basin
If it was a public emergency there would have been a police cruiser with it's lights on at the barricade. Anything else and they cannot legally completely block a public street. I would have waived them down but then again I have had several experiences of private security personnel try and tell me I could not get to the flying field, when the police saw the planes in the back of my car they waived me right through.
It sucks to get there and not be able to fly, for any reason.

Just bye the bye, that is not totally correct. I have closed down several streets, including Figueroa near Staples Center, to do work. Sometimes just a lane, sometimes an entire street. Just need a good reason, an approved traffic control plan and a permit from the LA City DOT.

If there is a street and a sidewalk you can close down the street but you have to let people pass on the sidewalk. Unless the local police are telling people they can't pass good luck trying and stopping them. If you physically try and stop them your company would be out a lot of money and the folks downtown know this from experience.
That's based on my experience working in the film industry.
