RE: KEN/TEN FLYING
Sounds like a good idea to me. [sm=thumbup.gif] We've probably have 40 or so fliers in a 60 mile radius that we all fly with at one time or another during the season. This would be a great way for all of us to keep up on what's going on when......
I'll send it out to the guys around here.

RE: KEN/TEN FLYING
Hello to everyone!
We got some stick time in today down here at HFI.[sm=thumbup.gif] I got several flying buddies that fly here with me, but one ole' fart stood us up today. I won't mention any names, but............... he knows who he is. Dauber and I had to do all the work, but someone has to do it. Bill Wheeler showed up for support. His transmitter is in the repair shop at the moment, so all he could do was heckle at us.
Some of you know I drug the old Hanger 9 33% Extra out of storage this winter and installed a DL-100 in it. That along with some new Hitec 7955's and a Spectrum AR9000 receiver got her going again. Today was the maiden for it with all the new gear. Everything went pretty good I guess. I had a few problems with the DL but nothing serious. It took about 30 flips to get it started the first time. Ran it for 5 or 6 minutes and checked the rpm's with the Xoar 27x10. Only 5640, but on the first run, and both needles at 1 1/2 turns out, not too bad. I decided that was too much load on a new engine, so I yanked the prop and put on a Mejzlik 26x10. Got 6690.... Much better, so I flew it there for 3 flights. On the 3rd flight I had a plug foul out. Yanked the cheap stock plugs and put in some NGK CM6's, leaned the HS just a bit, and put the tach on it...... 6870 now. Got in one more flight before dark. All in all not too bad. I did have one dead stick, but I think it was from the old fuel tubing in the tank being stiff. It quit on my on an outside 1/2 loop. Here's a few pics of my Extra, and one of Dauber today. He ended up having canopy problems, so he didn't get to fly. But him and Bill managed to give me a hard time like all good flying buddies do. [sm=spinnyeyes.gif]

Hey do you have any fly in dates yet??
Ours is May 2-3, don't know if we are going to cook both days or not. We will have a flyer out before long.
Also don't know yet when we will have an steak cookout.

RE: KEN/TEN FLYING
Not a whole lot of flying happening in this neck of the woods...particularly out of MY hangar.
Time has been being spent outfitting the spiffy new 5x10 trailer:
And creating an 'as yet un-named scratch-built TLAR something or other' that has the wings of an H9 Ultra Stick and...well...uh...
I have no idea what it is, really. But it's gonna be LIGHT

RE: KEN/TEN FLYING
So here is where you guys are hanging out. The DL install looks good Frank. It's good to see that some flew yesterday. Some of us others suffered from not having a trailer to keep stuff in nd have to rely on our memory not to forget our radio. Yes I did. got to the field yesterday evening late but without a radio. [:@] Got in loaded in the Explorer now and trying to slip out of work early.

RE: KEN/TEN FLYING
More flying at HFI today. Myself, Jack, and Dauber got in a good afternoons worth of flying. The clouds rolled in and the visibility wasn't very good, but with the calm winds it was bearable in the mid 40's. Nothing exciting happened. I got in 5 more flights on the new DL-100. Tweaked the LS needle a bit, and after the 4th flight, I took the Mej. 26x10 off and put on my Mej. 27x10 off the Edge. It tached 6440, so the engine is starting to come on. My DA turns the same prop around 6700, but that was at the 40 gallon mark. Looks like the DL will be a good engine after it's all broke in.
Dauber had his hatch repaired, so he got it several flights as well. I think I shamed Jack into coming today.... [X(] He flew his Funtana 100X to his usual form. All great landings, and lots of good flying in between.

RE: KEN/TEN FLYING
Well I finally made it to the party. Seems like it takes me awhile to do anything anymore LOL. Glad to see the new planes and trailers getting ready for a red hot season. Finally got my canopy on last night and got in a few good flights today at HFI. The old Katana is chirpping like a bird and I guess it likes this cold weather but I sure don't. Looking forward to seeing everybody real soon.

Well, the "creation" in the garage has a name.
It will officially be known as "The Splat". Now if I can just keep it from LIVING UP to that name.
