Wow, sorry to see that in anybody. Especially since I just went through it myself. http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_9036411/tm.htm
30 stitches in my hand.
I agree, never EVER let your guard down around a spinning prop.
Hope everything heals up for you and you get back to flying soon.

Prop strikes with human flesh are the #1 medical claim with the AMA. Keep in mind that if you have no other insurance or the cost exceeds that insurance that you can claim this with the AMA.
Accident/Medical Coverage
The Accident/Medical coverage applies to injuries while engaged in model operations regardless of who causes the accident. It reimburses an AMA member in accordance with policy terms and conditions for only medical expenses (also the beneficiary for loss of life) incurred within 52 weeks of the accident. The Accident/Medical coverage works as follows:
• Provides up to $25,000 for medical expenses and $10,000 for dismemberment or death.
• Insures AMA member directly – does not require claim action by another person.
• Pays for eligible expenses upon submission of bills or other documents certifying cost of treatment and that injury was caused by model operations.
• Reimburses medical expenses only after submission to any other health plan, including MediCare.
• Has a $750.00 deductible.

I do not feel like fighting with you! I realize the sandals are not the best idea, but my feet are never near the prop. I do a squat and stand up and go to the back of the plane once the engine is running. I only kneel on the ground in front of the plane to start it. This damage was done with the engine between idle and 1/4 throttle with me kneeling in front of it. I had just set the starter down. It will definataly wake me up a little on safety. I have been starting glow models for close to 30 years this way, and maybe felt a little too comfortable.

What good would a restraint do! The plane did not surge forward. You still have to put your arm over the prop to hold the fuse to apply the starter. The arm that was holding the fuse is the one that got chopped. I turned my head to set the starter down, and must have let the arm drop slightly. Here are some after pictures after the Doc appointment today.

Did they sew it up wth a SINGER or by hand. What a mess. And what you had on your feet had nothing to do with it. Some people just have to chime in.

OUCH! That hurts just to look at it. I know how much it stung when I just got grazed a few weeks ago- nothing more than a few slight scratches on my arm, and that woke me up. I try to be careful, but sometimes, things just happen!

I shave with mine until they are dull, then fly with then. In the old day's you never heard of getting cut that bad. A few blisters from prop strikes but nothing that bad. Of coarse we mainley had wood

Metalica,
Yep, a APC 11-8 at little over idle. The tips are very sharp.
