Default Cubs !!!

Since I have nothing to do while coming up for air between CA fume doses for the next 5 days.....
I want to make a webpage showing everyone's Cub's.
Send me your pics with your name (if you want), model mfg, or plans maker, scale, engine, details, how long to build, ect, ARF's and foamies too.
[email protected]
Put "cub" in the subject line.

"No more flyin' Yellar Thangs!!!"?????
This, coming from a guy who is proud to be associated with profile planes?

Mike, mike, mike, mike, mike. What ever are we going to do with you?

I say, no more flyin' boards with wings.
Even the most sophisticated jet modelers hangar should have a big ol' cub in it!

Default Cubs !!!

Morning to all,

Years ago, back in the early daze of RCO there was a thread called, no more flyin' yeller thangs....it was funny, and resulted in a hundred post Cub VS the rest of us.
One of the funniest damm threads I remember.
I love the full scale.
But here in my club, the Cubs are flown by the blue hair brigade, side slip, touch and go, repeat. Cubs, Cubs and more Cubs.
We have big issues at my club...us vs them ad nauseam.

So whenever I see a Cub thread, I must chime in the the faithfull call to arms...No more flyin' yeller thangs!
Ground loopin', tail chasin', Slow flyby flyin', touch and go machines.

It's airplane humor at it's finest, folks!

I didn't like how my GP 40 Cub flew. I heard the bigger ones fly better.....

It looks great hanging in our bedroom! The wife is just getting used to it.....

how come the clipped wing cubs are so hard to fly? I have a Sig and it flies like a brick! Made my turn for a landing and it fell out of the sky! I thought I had plenty of speed too. Because of this, I dont think too highly of cubs anymore.

I'd start by checking the CG. (Don't have a Chevy 350 up front, do ya? )
Even moderately heavy Cubs are usually great flyers.
True that the clipped wing version won't get "quite" so slow without stalling,
as its full-span counterpart, but they certainly still get near trainer-slow, in my recollection.
(Still... they aren't a "trainer", and some care must be excercised)

The too slow downwind turn/stall/crash is pilot error, sorry.
(Not that lots of us haven't made that error before... so don't feel bad)
Perhaps you had a bit more tailwind than you thought... or that you didn't feel
anything where you were, but off the end of the field, there was a gust.
Planes fly on airspeed, not groundspeed... so sometimes what looks honking fast
to the RC pilot on the ground, may in reality be barely above stall speed, at the airplane

Gee, and my CUB was just the opposite.. I couldn't get that
sucker to come down.. And only way I could ever land the
damn thing was to run it out of fuel.. I have since added
about one pound to it so hopefully it will be better in this
regard..
C_Wat .. Hows *my* OTT doin' ..

All Cubs require rudder for landing and turning, and just a wee bit O aileron.

Robby, that's my experience too, honestly.
Taught a guy to fly on a Cub once, and even though he was a *fast* learner,
it still took a few lessons to get the landings/rollouts within the confines of a small field.
Seems like he'd nail the approach perfect from an "alignment" standpoint, but
then he'd flare out and fly, idling, at about 8" off the deck, another 350 feet or so
(Looking back, I guess I should have suggested a lower pitch prop. Oh well.)

Oh.. the "patient" is still awaiting surgery. Still haven't decided totally, whether
I'll be doing the honors, or if I'll be passing that operation along to another surgeon.
(with the associated pain in the wallet that would bring )

Amen to what Mike Bogh said, too. If you're really going to fly a cub properly,
you'd definitely better be somewhat proficient in the use of the rudder.
