Head up for Web Masters out there
Our club web site was the target of a Company by the name of Domain Regestry of America, or DROA.Com. The scam works like this, the send the "owner" of the domain an Email stating that they are having trouble transfering or renewing the Domain name.
Here is the Email our tresurer received. He is not a tech guy, and he bumped it to one of our club members who setup the web site initally. This guy has a business hosting web sites, and he thought that someone, probably me as I'm now the webmaster for the club, was trying to move the domain registration to the DROA.com and was having trouble. Idid some investigating on Google and found that this company was proscuted byt the FTC in 2003 for the same scam and won the suit and the results are on line. This didn't seem to stop these crooks though.
After an afternoon of activity, we found that Network Solutions still had control of our site and YES, the letter we received was a scam. However it took two calls to them to straighen things out.
Webmasters of the club sites should be aware that these crooks are now targeting us was well as other sites.

RE: Head up for Web Masters out there
Campgems,
I own and operate a computer company and we also deal with hosting many websites. This scam has been going around for a few years now in one form and fashion. You are correct, it is very slick and many people get suckered into it. Thanks for posting a warning to all of RCU's members.
