Fun with PVC

RE: Fun with PVC
OK - Here is my first one. I needed something to haul the planes to the field in the van without a bunch of hangar rash. It fits on the arm rests on either side and then has the center support coming up off the floor to help carry the weight. Bungy over that and hooked into the seat attachments. Gives me actually quite a bit of versatility.

Here is a little wing/fuselage rack that I can just throw in and go. On a couple of the pics you can see one piece of pvc that looks like it has tee's on it but is swung down. I but the side out of two tee's just enough that they would snap over the pvc pipe. This gives me a brace holding the weight of the fuselage in the center piece and just kind of locks it all together.

This is my latest. I needed a little bit heavier duty stand for working on the larger planes. I built this one one it can change the length of fuselage that fits in it just by moving from one set of tee's to another. I added all of the xtra 90's and 4 way tees to keep the weight of the plane from spinning the parts and pieces down. I also can remove the U shaped fuselage holders and put on just two flat bars to put the wing up on.
One thing I found out a long time ago is if you want to modify pvc and you've glued the fittings you have a heck of a time changing anything. I now just take a rubber mallet and pound all of the pipes down into the fittings and then take a 1/16th drill and drill one hole at the end of each fitting and through the pipe and simply screw in a servo screw to hold it in place.

I've been lucky so far. I've had them hanging like that for over 10 years now and haven't had it happen yet. I do always make sure I can hear the clunk in the tank when I take them down however. For some reason what usually happens to me is they end up towards the front of the tank due to something called Lawn Darts

I have a bunch of these "X" style stands in all different sizes. Really work well and are simple to build. I also use this Tx stand quite a bit in the shop when setting up models.

TLH,
I am afraid I am going to have to take legal action against you for
copyright infringement on the transmitter stand.
I built one just like that many years ago.
I don't use it anymore since I built starting benches for our field.
It's nice to not need to kneel down to start anymore.
PVC is wonderful stuff for many things, I understand it is even used for plumbing.
Great minds think alike!
Good Luck,

RE: Fun with PVC
I made this from 2" PVC to soak strips for bending.
The adapters can be eliminated by using slip type end caps.
Side weights/blocking prevent the rock&roll&spill.
So far it has behaved well and does the trick. Made to accommodate 48"length's.

Big Bird, I would have done what you did except I had a ton of many different lengths to soak. I could pop them in and out as needed. I use the lead weights in the photo to keep them down. Those pieces gave me a good laugh about how badly they want to jump out of the "pool".
Outstanding Biplane by the way! I bet the kids at that playground think they can go for a ride!

What diameter PVC did you use for this?
Thanks
