Default GMS engines

I bought my first GMS engine a few years ago and figured out how to make it run and run well loved the GMS's Now for the first time I wish I did not have so many, [I have 8} Because now I can not get parts for them! I called Tower and they have no idea when they will be getting any parts in for them, I have 3 47's 3 61's 1 76 and a 120, I need a carb and a muffler and parts for a 47 need a muffler for the 120, I have been waiting months for the parts! I have bought a few parts engines off of E-bay! I will not buy another GMS engine until parts can be bought again! Unless anyone knows where parts can be found? I hate to give them up because they have been my favorit glow 2 stroke engines, Very frustrating not be able to get parts! And starting to wonder if they have been discontinued!

This is like buying a car that takes only LMS2M1 tires and you tear up a tire and find nobody carry's LMS2M1 tires! So you have to park the car! very very disapointing! And I was one that loves the GMS engines, I reckon I put to many eggs into one basket!

EBay is a website and UK is the abbreviation for the United Kingdom.

Hairy: Carbs and mufflers? You can use a variety of carbs and mufflers, they do not have to be GMS branded to work. Just measure the diameter of the carb boss and fiind a carb that fits. Perry carbs, for example. Or a carb from a Tower Hobbies brand engine, etc. Same with the mufflers, just measure the distance between bolt holes and find a match by looking at other brands and check the specs.

Pistons and liners can be more difficult, but if you know the dimensions you can probably find a match from another brand engine.

Bearings are easy, you can source them from several suppliers.

Hobby People might have a Magnum carb that would work...
Most .40 to .50 size engines use a carb w/ a 13mm neck.

As for a muffler...how about a Bisson or Macs universal type?

Thank you on the carb info! I have run a macs muffler on an OS engine it seemed OK! The Bisson is by far one of my favorit, I use them on War-birds to get a better sound and hide the muffler under the cowl. But The plane I need the muffler for is just a sport plane! The engine is mounted up right! Thank you very much for your help!

OK thanks Bob! I have went the other way with putting and Tower or GMS muffler on an OS but never OS on a GMS But will try that in the morning! Does anyone know what brand carb would be a dirrect fit on a GMS 47 engine?

If you have any way to precisely measure the inside diameter of the carb's neck bore in the case (calipers? ) you could compare that to the Magnum .46's (Magnum parts are relatively inexpensive )

It's backordered though...

13 mm = .511" - .512"

Maybe ask around locally to see if anyone has an old retired engine that still has a useable carb on it?

I know for sure that Perry makes one...

I like them...have many K&B engines with Perry's...they work great as long as you keep your fuel nice and clean...there is a very precise metering slot in the idle disc.

Lots of people like them....some don't...another one of those "matter of personal taste" sorta things I guess?

Well I am done with GMS engines! I have tried to find parts for them where ever I could and it is near impossible to find anything! I really liked these little engines and will miss the power they had but when you can not find parts they are as useless as my ex wife! So I will be replacing them with OS and Magnum! Such a good little glow engine and they pull the rug out from under us! Even if they was to come back its to late for me now!
