Default Helldiver raised

I think it was on this site that I first read about this plane being found. Good to see it's been raised and is heading for a restoration.

Quite rare models. Only a few left in the world.

Cool story,
I'm surprised it took someone so long to go get it, one more bird the government just forgot about..
There was another store like this last year??? of plane found in the woods along the Oregon Coast,, Makes you wonder how many more are out there

They only found it because the water level receided so much in that reservoir......personally spent many wonderful days on that "lake" hunting bass and stuff...[&:]

I was thumbing through an old issue of one of the many aviation related magazines I have around the house and came across an article about just this sort of salvage operation, raising a U S Navy aircraft
after being underwater for many years, particularly a WWII Naval aircraft. The story dealt with the reason many downed U S Navy aircraft that are discovered are not salvaged. Several offers were made to the
Navy to trade Museum class restoration for a rare Navy airplane to the Navy for their Museum use, for a
sunken WWII airplane to be raised and restored. No deal. The Navy has turned a deaf ear to all proposals presented for several years, much to the frustration of the Salvagers/Restorers. Now as this Helldiver has been raised and apparently headed for restoration and a museum it appears the Navy finally woke up to the values rottting away in waters of this world every day that goes by. I'm surprised that the
Helldiver was in the shape it is. Way to go guys, whatever you did to get the Navy's blessing on this one!
