I build a transmitter to find lost planes in corn fields.

I talked to a freind today that told me people have a hard time finding downed planes in corn fields. I build tracking collars for hunting dogs and thought maybe there maybe a market for my transmitter in the RC world. Would anyone be interested in this? It works with a directional antenna and you could walk straight to your plane.

Thanks

I can sell just the transmitter cheaper than the whole collar.

At the bottom of the Overview page click on the red text for Receivers, Transmitters, etc. They are not cheap.

Other devices can be found by doing a Google search for "model aircraft locators".

Looks like I can beat the price on the transmitter easily. I don't sale the receiver,s I normaly build my transmitters to match receivers made by other companies such as Quick Track, Tracker and F&L. they're about the same price. I thought maybe a club could buy 1 receiver to share and I could build transmitters to match. I,m thinking around 75.00 ea.

Question: How light can you make it....the lighter the better (less than one ounce?)

Also can it stand the shock of a hard landing??

I just wieghed the transmitter on a postage scale without a battery or antenna and it wieghs 0.5 oz.
i didn,t know if you would wire it to the battery in the plan or I could add watch type batteries. as for as the antenna it takes 12.5 inchs of wire are cable I can use very light material. It is very tough and can with stand hard crash. One good thing is I build the whole transmitter and can customize it the way you want it. with or without battery.

How does it find the lost plane? By sound off in the distance, or more like a directional beacon that gets louder as you approach? Or?
What would be the effective range or in other words what would be the extreme distance that we could count on to find something.
Thanks......

It works with a reciever that has a directional antenna when the antenna is pointing away from the plane you will get a weak beep when it is pointing in the direction of the plane you will get a strong beep and the closer you get the strong the beep. As you get closer you will turn the gain down on the reciever to pin point location of the plane. I have only used this transmitter on dog collars the range is 12 miles line of sight thats clear path with no obstructions and 2 to 3 miles wooded, hilly conditions.</p>

We use [link=http://www.com-spec.com/rcplane/index.html]this one[/link] in my club. Works really well.

Radio locaator systems are quite commonly used in free flight.
