Finally getting a trailer....need some advice
 

I finally struck a deal on a nice 16' tandem axle trailer, and have been browsing the threads on how to lay it out. I'd really like to know what cleats you guys use to hold the planes down, and where did you get them. This is mainly for the big planes, so I also need to know the best way of securing the small ones too. I plan to put shelves all the way across in the back end, and put the big planes there. The smaller ones I think I'm gonna try and secure them to the wall, up front, unless you guys have a better idea. It looks like I'm gonna have two 8' areas, one shelved for the big planes and one not, for the smaller planes, fuel, tools etc. Thanks in advance for any help.

I would recomend a torsion axel, you will have a smoother ride less rebound. Spring axels tend to rebound violently your, planes won't like it.

I was wondering about that. It figures that my trailer has leaf springs. Can it be converted reasonably?

A trailer has been designed to support a much larger weight than our little airplanes- even the biggest ones. If you want the thing to ride nice you will have to provide some of the weight. A couple of water tanks in the right place can help quite a bit. Then you can always use some water when you get to the field even if you just want to wash your hands.

to the original question... I just use D-Rings that you screw in the floor....

then bungee cords... has worked for years.

Thanks, that is probably the easiest/cheapest solution. D rings or eye bolts.

Since you have gone tandem axle, you don't need torsion axles - the tandems ride very smoothly. I like tie-downs like these. They don't snag.
