100 inch long airplane

hi
does anyone have any advice on a trailer i can purchase that can transport this bird

a matt chapman
1/3 scale plane
it is 98" long

i would prefer the trailer not be too big
and i do not have to be able to walk inside it
if it looks like a luggae trailer or so, that would be fine
also

it cannot be too heavy
since i will be pulling it with a 6 cylinder nissan xterra

thanks<br type="_moz" />

Just connect a straight tongue coupler onto the tail, take off the prop, hitch it up and go ! :)

Seriously now.... I know Home Depot used to sell some smaller enclosed trailers. They were not real heavy duty so they probably would be light enough. A motorcycle trailer ,snowmobile trailer, etc..would probably work but now you are into the specialized realm so the price automatically goes up. I would check around your local RV shops too and see what will work and then start looking in the classifieds for a used one.

Get a pair of luggage racks from Wally World, Kmart, Sports Authority etc. and support the fuse to the roof. Get some small carbonfiber tubes and rubberband the flight controls. The wings should fit in the Nissan along with your field eguipment. I've seen the fuse and one piece wings of a Flybaby Bipe on the roof of a 1972 Volkswagen Beetle going down the highway, it can be done for dirt cheap. Dont forget, a trailer will require title, tags, property taxes, and maybe insurance.

Every so often U-Haul sells off trucks and trailers at auction sales. If there is a U-Haul place near you try asking them. Sounds like you need a 12 foot trailer and your Xterra will pull it easily.

Just a thought.

I built mine. Harbor Freight 8' trailer frame with a 10' box on it. It would be easy to do any number of variations on that. Tow car is a honda civic, trailer weighs less than 500lbs fully loaded ready to go flying.

That's an option too , as long as your handy. Like they say if the girls don't find you handsome at least they should at least find you handy !

I built it. There is a build thread here on rcu. http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_41...tm.htm#4106446 Finished cost was about $600. Thats total, frame, built up box, lights and registration. Mileage drops to 27mpg towing the trailer. Its about 6 years old now and still holding up great. When its not loaded, its light enough to easily man handle into its parking spot. Tongue weight is about 50lbs or so.

Get an old tent camping trailer. There are usually a lot of then around. They are 96" long but you can get a 98 in airplane in it.

i will buy the trialer from harbor freight and i will see what i can come up with.

Had a club member with a Kia who would strap his 25% Yak on the roof-rack and drive to the field. Eventually he put several deep scratches and gouges in the car from putting on,taking off . He got caught in the rain a few times and had to seek shelter under an overpass or car wash, and a few times he didn't make it and had to stop, tarp it and wait it out. The plane also took a hit from road debris(small stone probably) and cracked the canopy.

Throw away/sell the nissan and get yourself a Dodge or Chrysler Minivan.http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f...eeth_smile.gif

Fold all the seats down and that plane will fit no problem. (I have that plane and a Dodge)

i love the answers
i am getting here

i am strongly considering doing just that

however

my friend has a honda minivan
and my 27% extra barely fit in that one

i also have a cadillac escalade esv

and the plane easily fits in that one

the only problem is that the cadillac is my wife's car

LOL

Its a secret. I can get 3 .60 sized H9 warbirds (4 if I cram them in), two 1/4 scale cubs or giant scale warbirds, one ATI 104" B-17. Or a mix of those. I keep various different cradles to hold the planes in place, they're screwed to the floor and give me flexibilty. It's sure saved me a lot in fuel from my truck. My round trip to the field is 72 miles. This just became necessary.

That's what I have been buying for the last several years ...."Dixie Cups"
Last one is a '98 Windstar. Bought it for $1200.00, took all the rear seats out and can fit my 27% planes inside.
Cheap plane transportation and when they get to the major repair point just send them to the crusher and go get another one.
