It was a beautiful day for flying here but it coincided with the AGM and annual dinner.
Attachment 2265763Some poor soul turned up in the afternoon looking for an instructor to take them flying but we were all three sheets in a wind by then! I made a speech in my unmgrammatical French and awarded prizes to those who had flown (and crashed) in La Coupe Des Barons and to those who had crashed most often throughout the previous year! https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...aa296882e9.jpg Here I am awarding the club president with a slab of styrofoam so that he can repair the wing of his Baron. https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...9f3a74856e.jpg ...and here I am presenting the youngest member of our team, too chicken to fly in the limbo round of La Coupe, with some car polish so that he may polish his model and his little Peugeot as well! https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...548e1f5def.jpg Well someone was amused! https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...c050f441d6.jpg Must reduce my wine consumption and lose a few kilo! |
Amongst the chaos of my workshop a Big Guff is starting to emerge.

It's BIG all right!
|
My shop has the aroma of Dope.
So does my bedroom and half the house. OOPS, guess my exhaust fan is not doing it's job. |
Maybe its a California super charger it sucks rather than blows?
|
Could be! The fumes sink, found that out when I bent down to get something off a shelf and got a snoot full of fumes, so I will make an extractor box to put on the floor. That should suck the fumes out.
|
Might want to do that soon rather than later otherwise SWMBO may get all over your case! :D
|
eh, she likes the smell. Go figure.
|
Although, it does make the cats frisky. My bedroom is right above my workshop, and the past few nights they have been running around like nuts, making all kinds of racket.

That is so true. Problem now is I am used to the smell, but I can still smell it, even though I am at work 60 miles away. Since I now have everything covered so the wood won't warp, I can set the project aside for a bit until I come up with a plan to tap the blower for the Laser, and work on the B-25 instead, or play with my Lego Technic and come up with something cool.

The building, except for one V strut is done, in the covering stage now. Now that all the aprts are covered and have the first coats of dope on them so they wont warp, I can set it aside and finish the laser work until I figure out a way to vent the fumes from the dope.
|
My aunt use to dope wings during the war but had to quit the job due to the fumes. Dope fumes are nothing to mess with!
|
I'll see your aunt and rase you my uncle Frank.
In WW2, state side, he ran a crew that went onboard returning battle damaged ships to search for bodies and body parts. (sorry if this is too gross) |
I had a friend who was in a crash recovery unit same type of deal. Not Fun!
|
I used to work with a man who was the gunner on the second tank into Lille in northern France in 1944, a Sherman incidentally. I forget why he was sent back to England but he was given the job of cleaning the interior of damaged tanks before the repair crews got to them. This was quite a popular job because they used to help themselves to any cigarettes and K rations they found. These were usually stored behind elasticated nets fixed to the interior of the turret which is where the crews also used to store their berets. One day he found a beret behind the net containing half a man's head....
For our tomorrow... |
With a hot coffee and a piece of cake in my hot hand, let me wish you a happy thanks giving..........Now back to the cake.

If you chose both You are right! just the way I like it, no icing, semi sweet, sour cream bunt. had some this morning and going for more.:) |
Am I old enough
I've been at this since 1956. Started on Comet kits. My first was a Spad. I chucked it over a bridge. Flew pretty well for about 51 feet. Just for reference, the bridge is 50 feet over the river bottom.

Yeah, I was flying RingMaster's with a McCoy blue head 35 on pressure, profile Midwest Messerschmitt with a R/C Super Tiger engine, size escapes me and many others in the early 70s.
Bought my first radio, a WORLD 4 ch and a 110" California Coaster sail plane around 75. In 75 or so I flew sail planes at the polo grounds in Palm Springs These days I fly all volters, latest is a Avios Spitfire, beautiful scale plane a fly's great too. My next plane will be a Freewing F-4 Phantom with 80mm fans from Motion R/C. |
