Road Trip This Summer

Doing a road trip this summer and will be traveling across northern New York, New Hampshire, Vermont and Maine on my way to Newfoundland. Crossing over near Kingston Ontario Canada and I am looking for any RC clubs that may be on the way.

Here's a club-search link from the AMA website. Just find out what zip-codes you'll be going through and you can pull up a list of clubs in that area. Most are up to date, but do be aware there are always a few that either aren't in existance anymore or have incorrect info... but it should give you something anyway.

Academy of Model Aeronautics - AMA Charter Club Search

You can also simply do a Google search ... like I just did for "Vermont RC clubs"... here's an example of what you'll get...

https://www.rc-airplane-world.com/ve...ane-clubs.html

Here's another from a Google search of "New Hampshire RC clubs"

https://www.rc-airplane-world.com/ne...ane-clubs.html

So... yeah.. just Google it... matter of fact Google everything. Google is your friend.

Yep done that before unfortunately between incorrect information (like the location being the home address of a past member or someone who has moved), number no longer in service, club moved or ceased to exist, or a club that just is not very active you could spend a day driving to places with no joy. Since I have but a few days passing through if I made contact with a few active on the forum they might be active at the field.

By the way thanks for the info looked at those web sites before posting here if there is no joy here then I will have to go back and look again.

Thanks
Dennis

Hobby shops are fun stops most of the time also. I've frequented many hobby shops on road trips. Back when my wife traveled for business/work I usually drove her on those trips, and while she was in conferences or meetings I would explore at area hobby shops and flying fields. Many times I'd ask the people in the hobby shop where local fields were at... and I'd always bring home a souvenir from most of the shops. Still do if I go into a new shop I've never been in, I try to find something I can use, it's a way to break the ice, do a little business, and get some info... plus I've brought home some cool RC stuff over the years...

Enjoy your trip Dennis... If you were in California, I might be better equipped to help you.. but I don't know where anything is on the east coast... haha.. I'd be lost without Google..

Is it legal to fly R/C in Canada? Can you bring radio and planes, helis and drones across borders without getting in legal trouble?

Of course it is LOL. If you belong to the AMA your insurance coverage is accepted in Canada as ours is in the US. Its called the reciprocal agreement between the AMA and MAAC. If you want to fly at a Canadian club you will need to show your AMA membership card.

I bring a 12 ft enclosed trailer with lots of planes, boats etc every time I travel in the US. I've flown at clubs on my way to Florida, Georgia, Texas and states in between. Always been made welcome and couldn't meet a greater bunch of guys and galls.

Lots of FPV racing one club I belong to has an indoor course for winter flying and an outdoor course at the field.

FPV beyond line of sight is now possible in Canada with proper permission. licence and insurance.

Hobby shops are great stops but not always reliable as to the number and location of clubs in an area. For instance one hobby shop in Fort Worth would only admit to being aware of 2 clubs in the area. In fact there were 6 or 7 within driving distance. I guess a few of the clubs and the members had issues with this hobby shop so the hobby shop would not direct anyone to any of these clubs.

Modellers are the best resource as to where others fly. Most like yourself will go out of their way to make a visitor welcome. I like that.

If you`re traveling around Portland, Maine, Stop by Ray and Robins Hobby Center in nearby Falmouth. Nice store and they can probably direct you to the PropSnappers club. I used to be a member there and they had a really nice field.

Time Is Getting Close

Yep time is getting close camper and trailer just about ready to roll. Put in those magnetic screens on the doors of the trailer that way if the weather is bad I can at least sit/work inside the trailer without the mosquitoes eating me alive.https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...2f09accf08.jpg

Camper is small as it fits on the back of a short box but it has everything the wife and I need to travel.

The Toy Box is a 12 ft enclosed trailer I have outfitted to drag my toys along on my trips. There will be a canoe strapped on top and a 2.5 hp outboard inside the trailer.
